On the eve of what could be the USA's last World Cup match until 2018 I think that our most realistic best case scenario tomorrow is a Ghana-Portugal tie and finish second in the group which would be quite an accomplishment (when groups were drawn in December and up until about a week before the tourney started I was convinced we would finish last). Obviously the actual best case scenario is a win over Germany and clinching first place in the group of death. If by the grace of god we beat Germany tomorrow and look good doing it I am just going to go ahead and say this now, America will win the World Cup.

Wait - are people actually defending Luis here? Or maybe not defending, but saying he doesn't deserve a severe punishment?

I'm just going to say this, for anyone trying to argue that there have been more "severe foul infractions" going on in the WC and soccer in general, here is the difference: It's all about intent. When two players jump for a corner kick, one might get hurt. You know the risk of a slide tackle. When the goalie races out of his box to grab the ball while the forward on the opposing does the same to shoot, he just might get hurt doing it. But it's all about intent. Alot of fouls that end up with yellow/red cards being given out are because of reckless challenges. Dangerous, reckless, but it comes with the game. Reckless challenges should be punished, yes, but they happen.

Deliberately biting someone on their shoulder when you're not even going for the ball is not reckless. You can accidentally slide tackle someone improperly - you can't fucking accidentally bite a guy in the shoulder (and when it's the 3rd time you've done it, the term "accident" doesn't work in your favor). You're not trying to play football at that point - you're simply trying to instigate a fight, and that is not what any sport needs. It doesn't matter how skilled or popular of a player in question. The guy needs to be booted off the National team.

And yes - he bit the guy. He may have an argument if the cameras showed the shoulder turning and going into his face and not the other way around.

What in the hell is this video? What's wrong with you.

Bitting someone is behaving like an animal. Justifying it as retribution is ass backwards thinking.

Also a £65K fine. That four-month ban also included things like training and entering the stadium on match days, but apparently does NOT mean he can't be transferred this summer. That 4 month suspension a big blow for Liverpool too, because it means he misses 8 PL matches AND their first 3 CL group games.

Personally I think his time in England is done and he'll be sold to either Barca (seems the most likely at this point) or Madrid before the season begins.

I'm still waiting for Gunz to come in and complain about how Howard should have stopped that goal.

I'm assuming that Gunz's analysis of the game will include lauding Bradley for playing extraordinary today.

This gif sums up the US's performance today quite nicely - lots of errors but still, somehow, got the job done.

I wouldn't necessarily say we got the job done today unless that means we didn't get blown out. Definitely needed help from Portugal to move on. We did get the job done the prior two games though and what an accomplishment!

I wonder if we get Altidore back next week? I saw him jump off the bench quickly on that poor foul call on Beasley at the end of the match.

Good fortune for the US in Ghana pretty much self destructing today. Heard they had some internal issues before the match. That should've been a Ghanna win but in the end the two right teams advanced from group G.
