Our midfield is falling apart though. Dempseys goal was practically a lucky fluke, because we are being outplayed so far.

    Hrrmmm.

    Edit:

Talk About Sportsmanship: Japanese Fans Clean Up Stadium After World Cup Loss:

After the Ivory Coast pulled off a 2-1 comeback win against the Blue Samarai that featured two scores in less than 100 seconds, the Japanese fans apparently went to work.

Instead of waiting for staff at the Arena Pernambuco clean up after the game, Japan supporters were captured cleaning up their own mess.

That was not a fluke and outplayed?!! Ghana was playing rough and messy. They had very few legit shots on goal. Howard only had to block one. The US defense was playing tight and offense was taking advantage of every chance they got. We could definitely move forward. Ghana will lose to Germany, we can beat Portugal.

This is the worst analysis of the game I've seen. Like, completely, utterly wrong.

Don't get me wrong, Dempsey's goal was stellar, but I call it a bit lucky because he just caught them off guard that early on. After that, Ghana dominated the match. They held way more possession (I saw this stat at one point in the game, on completed passes: Ghana had 280 and the US only had like 180), it was just that our defense could stop them at the last minute, hence Howard not having to make that many big saves. But they were formulating attacks alot more often than we were. They had plenty more opportunities to level the playing field, And they're goal against us was gorgeous play.

Offensively, we really didn't do that much during the game. Our midfield wasn't nearly aggressive enough and was making sloppy errors that gave the ball away (I'm looking at you, Bradley).

We survived, which is great, but we have to play a ton better than that if we want to stand up to Portugal and especially Germany.

By the end of the match, ball possession = 62% Ghana and 38% USA. Most definitely not a trend to be continued if the US wants to remain competitive.

I am happy as hell we won the game and we really needed the three points for a chance to move on. As long as we can tie one of the next two games I think we have a good shot to move on with goal differential. That being said the loss of Jozy is huge one.. The one player we couldn't afford to have injured. I think Wondo will make the start though next game.

Yes, and the US out of that sad percentage of possession managed 8 shots with 2 in versus Ghana having all that time with the ball and barely getting a handful of real chances. Betao was right with the midfield being sloppy, but if they can get control of the ball more we can do this.

I keep hearing outplayed and I just don't like it. We've got to stay positive.

    GO USA!!!!

They won the match, but they certainly weren't the better looking team. I still think they will struggle with Portugal and Germany should walk all over them. Still thinking 3rd place. Was hoping for tie to keep my bracket hopes alive, but happy they got redemption against Ghana. Seeing Altidore go off hurt made me happy, fucking hate that guy and shows not bringing Donovan was a poor choice by Klinsman.

Gunz, I'm all for keeping it positive but if we continue to pass the ball like a mediocre club team against Portugal and Germany we are in for a couple of drubbings.

I don't think the US were to get drubbed by Ghana. If anything, this was the one match up they had the best chance/odds. The next two teams will be capitalizing on the lack of control by the US.

They are calling it a strained hamstring at the moment but he is going to get more tests done tomorrow. Hopefully I'm wrong but my guess would be that he is done. A non contact injury like that is usually something pretty big.

Klinsmann is really good friends with Germany's coach Low, you have to think that those two will have a couple of chats this wink on how Germany successfully shut down Ronaldo. It all comes down to the US being able to implement those tactics. I believe this US teams matches up better with Portugal than they do with Ghana. Ghana had better athletes and was so much stronger and faster than the US at every position. The same can't be said about the Portuguese side.

So, some of you.. you watch USA unable to string 3 passes together for 90+ minutes against an African team, in a year where the African teams are exceptionally inept, and yet you think the Americans MIGHT have a chance against the likes of Portugal or Germany?
