Wow, i've been pretty dismissive seeing the Pumpkins nowadays, but that setlist is fucking phenomenal. I am also a huuuuuuuuuuuge fan of Obscured. Glad you had such a great time Omar.

Thanks dude! Yeah "Obscured" is a magical song and I literally could not believe my ears when I heard it. Probably my #1 SP song that I had not seen live that I was dying to hear.

You'll eventually learn that having a list of a, b, and c songs you have to hear in order for a show to be good is a bad way to go about things.

Zero is fucking weak sauce compared to some of the songs they played.

I've said this before in this thread, but Starla seriously might be their best song in my eyes. That jam at the end is SO fucking good.

I could seriously watch a Pisces only set and be magnificently happy. It's an almost perfect collection of songs. It would be a great seated theater show.

All this being said, yes my favorite band is Pearl Jam, but if Eddie had such a maniacal ego that over time he alienated everyone in the band and hired a bunch of hacks to fill in and had the balls to still call the band Pearl Jam, I'd tell him to go fuck himself and wouldn't give him one single cent of my money from then on. Regardless of how good the shows with the new lineup were.

Pearl Jam and SP are different in that regard Chris. I'm not saying I'm stoked that BC is the only original band member but the mechanics of the two bands are VERY different. I'm no Pearl Jam expert but I know each of the band members contribute songs and play on the records. Billy Corgan single handedly wrote 99% of Smashing Pumpkins songs and the overwhelming majority of what we hear on all those records people love from "Gish" to "SD" to "Pisces" is Billy playing all the guitars, keys and bass and JC playing drums.

Plus Darcy was fired from the band from drug use and Iha wanted to quit in 2000 and that is why BC broke-up the band. I'm not saying I love this new incarnation of SP and I do miss some of the band chemistry between the original members...but these are Corgans's songs and records...he has a right to do whatever he wants with them...of course we as fans have a choice to follow and support this or shy away.

That being said I was literally looking for every excuse to hate this performance and call it a day with the band....I was literally so blown away that I don't know what to say. In my opinion can't relly jude this incarnation of SP til you see them in concert...just wow.

Totally dude. Corgan wrote some of the best B-side material in existence. Though Pisces is amazing I think Aeroplane might be even better. Tracks like "Set the Ray to Jerry," "Cherry," "Aeropleane Flies High," "Transformer," and "Ugly" are awesome.

Set the Ray is one of the best songs Corgan ever did IMO. What blows my mind is those are the extras off a freaking 28 songs double album that already has a shitload of awesome material on it. What an amazing prolific writing period Corgan had in 94-96.

I am glad to see that Billy is focusing on the music as opposed to the fact that this incarnation of the band and the newer music is not beloved. His behavior on that anniversary tour back in 2008 was pretty disgraceful.

And nice setlist indeed. I would kill to see Thru the Eyes of Ruby live.

I'm surprised to see this development.

I saw the Pumkins at the end of last year, and Billy Corgan was... kinda douchey, actually. The crowd was not into it at all (most went to see fucking My Chemical Romance). He was acting sarcastic about the concert being "just like the 90's". All in all, it was disappointing.

He also generally has this "why do fans keep asking for the old songs?" attitude, so I'm glad things seem to be changing.

lucky..the show i went to was KROQ LA Invasion. festival set, about an hour 15, was single heavy, although the more the crowd yelled for 'zero' the less billy was willing to play singles, which i liked.

i'll take ur word for it, though i coulda swore they played it at the Final show..

the only songs i would ever need to hear would be:
    An Ode To Know One
    XYU
    United States
    Aeroplane Flies High

billy can play whatever he wanted after that...(although i'd take Everlasting Gaze, Muzzle, Tonight Tonight, Ava Adore, Silverfuck, I Am One)..
they don't seem to be playing the heavier tracks since the reunion though..

Why did Billy even bother with pretending it was a band and pose for all those group photos in the 90's? I think he's mentioned that he was the only one who had to sign the record contract.

Curious that they're going to reissue the Aeroplane box set next year, but that they're not messing around with Pisces this year (since, you know, it has their best song and everything).

    * Though it probably is worth mentioning that a remastered mix of this will turn up on Disc 2 of the Gish reissue, along with a few other Pisces cuts.

Yes, I forgot about Rhinoceros. That was my favorite song of theirs until I saw Starla live at the Santa Cruz Civic show in '07 and was completely blown away.

"Hello Kitty Kat" is my favorite SP song.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I'll always remember when I saw them at the United Center in 2000 a bunch of people who flew in from Japan for the show were holding up signs that said "Starla" and I thought to myself "Man, they haven't played that song live in YEARS...keep dreaming." Then towards the end of the set they started it and people were going berzerk. One of the best songs ever...period.

Little known fact it was recorded during/around the sessions for Gish so it dates way back...in my opinion blows everything on the Gish album out of the water.
