Ugh. Any hope I still had for the Pumpkins will now be redirected toward wishing for a 20th anniversary tour of Siamese Dream with the original members in a few years.

Or at least with Jimmy. I know Billy loves this toddler he has playing drums for him now, but Jimmy was the heart of the band and that is something that will not be replaced.

Brandon, feel like photoshopping a giant fork sticking out of Billy's back?

Who the hell is playing the guitar on this new song? That's the most un-Corgan sounding guitar solo I've ever heard before.
    9/05 - The Rentals - Fonda (?)
    9/11 - Swans - Roxy
    9/13 - Owen Pallett - El Rey (?)
    9/17 - Buzzcocks - Fonda (?)
9/20 - Crosby, Stills & Nash - Santa Barbara Bowl

Well this song was played a lot on the 20th anniversary tour so most die-hards are pretty familar with it. SP is def in my top 5 bands of all time so needless to say I am a huge fan. First impression of this song is its pretty good but nothing special. From the list of songs on the first EP coming soon they were all played live in August and I'm expecting them to be much stronger based on what I heard live. i guess time will tell.

Yeah, it's pretty much like this -

Jimmy : Smashing Pumpkins = Matt Sharp : Weezer

Without those guys, things don't work.

Yeah I agree def not classic Corgan sound but as usual all instruments but drums are done by Corgan himself.

Machina and Zeitgeist didn't exactly work either and Jimmy was along for those rides.

I would argue that Machina worked. Machina II did anyway.

Because he made great music. I would argue that only a handful of albums released this decade are better than Siamese Dream.

Also Jimmy wasn't on Adore and that was a fantastic album, as I and other have stated.

True, I can't really defend a lot of the shit that Billy's done as of late. But what have most musicians done recently? Not a lot, but people still are talking about them based on what they've done in the past.

To be honest, he was doing a lot of stupid shit before this year. I actually didn't mind Zwan but that Future Embrace album was awful. He started acting like a complete douche just before the release of the Future Embrace and he never stopped since then. His blogs were filled with Jesus love and bashing James Iha. He's so tortured.

I thought the Zwan album was utter shit, aside from Jesus, I/Mary Star of the Sea.

I mean, come on. Yeah? Terrible song.

It was a lot of pretty simply hooks throughout I thought. Nothing offensive but not very dynamic. I didn't mind Zwan nearly as much as Machina I, Zeitgeist or his solo album.

It's funny, I've met and talked to a few diehard fans of the band who have said that Adore is their fav. SP record. I didn't think it was as bad as a lot of people did, but I can't see how anyone could put it on a higher pedestal than SD or Mellon Collie.

Especially since Gish was pretty damn good, too.

I agree that Jimmy is an essential ingredient, however as mentioned in the SP die-hard commmunity Adore is heralded as a masterpiece and Jimmy didn't have a thing to do with it, so you never know.

The albums have just gotten consistently and progressively worse as Billy becomes more and more of an egomaniac. Looking back, the most disappointing album was Zeitgeist by far. Future Embrace has a few good tracks and I was mildly impressed when I recently gave it a relisten. Zwan felt like a not-quite-as-good Machina with alternate chick vocals. I complained about Machina as being commercial when it was released, but frankly its pretty good comparatively. Adore was even considered disappointing on release, and sold poorly, but stands up today as one of their best.
