    Default Reggae acts for 2009

For the lack of reggae at Coachella 08 we should have more reggae than ever at next years.

Let's get a wish list going

    Yellowman

    Lee "scratch" perry.

    from wikipedia:
In 2006, Perry met "king of party music" and television personality, Andrew W.K. at SXSW, forging a friendship bolstered by mutual artistic appreciation. In 2007, Perry invited Andrew W.K. to co-produce his upcoming full-length album, "Repentance". The album is to be released on the 19th of August 2008, on Narnack Records and will feature several guest artists including renowned electronic musician and producer Moby, seminal producer Don Fleming, drummer Brian Chippendale of staccato noise duo Lightning Bolt, bassist Josh Werner of Matisyahu, and adult entertainer Sasha Grey.

    Israel Vibration
    Eek A Mouse
    Toots and the Maytals
    Barrington Levy
    Steele Pulse
    Horace Andy
    Sizzla
    is Max Romeo still around?
Then I will hold you down and spit her percolations all over you until you're as greasy as the day she regrets pushing your big fat ass out her big fat cunt.

i agree. coachella 09 definately needs much more reggae than 08. linton kwesi johnson was good, but there wasn't even a backing band. Kind of disappointing. top picks for 09:

    Steel Pulse
    John Brown's Body
    The Aggrolites
    Gregory Issacs
    Sly & Robbie
    Wailing Souls
    Lee scratch Perry
    Matisyahu
    Don Carlos
...too bad king tubby is dead cause he would light the mojave on dub fire
the choice is yours, and yours alone.

i didn't know two reggae acts could be classified as a lack of reggae...

not as bad as the people who thought 12 hiphop acts weren't enough this year, but still...

Steel Pulse is playing in LA soon
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

what were the two reggae acts of 08? and why wasn't I there? And don't say Kwesli Johnson. I was there. He was a good poet, but he should really come back with a band. I don't count that as a reggae act.

You can probably catch Yellowman at various Los Angeles area bars 4 or 5 times a year. If he's that big of a get for you, he's pretty easy to find.
    *based upon tedious fact checking.

yeah, not so sure about the "two reggae acts"... I assume your talking about Linton Kwesi, which was spoken word, and Slightly Stoopid, which was Totally Stoopid...

Ever seen Steel Pulse or Israel Vibration live? not exactly the same thing. either of them would burn coachella down...

but personally, as the new sound progresses, I would squeeze in a dubby request-
WARRIOR QUEEN WITH BUG ON THE DECKS!!!!!

or perhaps King Midas Sound, or Tes La Rock

    mash up de place

And even though they aren't reggae, I don't give a fuck... give me The Specials and/or Madness!

jigsaw, you fucking tool, slightly stoopid does not play reggae. reggae is like house. to qualify for classification in the genre, there are certain actual technical requirements. in reggae, this is the use of upstroke guitar, as well as a fairly set vocabulary of scales and drum patterns. this is because reggae is, in a very inalienable form, religious music (another reason SS does not qualify). also, let's not forget that almost all true reggae greats sing/sang in jamaican creole (patois).

slightly stoopid is a reggae band like less than jake is a ska band.
    just... no, dude.

it's not being hipster or indie. it's being fucking respectful.

if you think slightly stoopid are a real reggae band, you're an idiot.

that's all there is to it.

    sorry.

you can like them. but they're not a reggae band.
    get over it.

    wooooooaaaaaa frozen!!!!!!!!!

You are the one treating this like some sort of pissing contest (ie, tool, idiot). It is obvious that you are talking out of your ass and that you donít know shit about slightly. When you just described reggae music you described Slightly Stoopid. I bet that you wouldn't realize this because you have never listened to Slightly and you are hell bent on comparing them to Sublime.

Why in the world would I take the opinion of someone, from the wrong side of Canada, over Half Pint or Barrington Levy? The videos I posted to you show both of these reggae artists collaborating with the band. If they are good enough for Half Pint and Barrington then they are good enough for me.

It's reggae music not indie music dickface. No one is trying to be cooler than anyone else here. So call me names all you want and prove how much love and respect you have for the scene kid.
