I agree, there's no chance New Jersey moves unless this gets MUCH worse, but I don't think the NHL wants to own 2 teams and that could influence their decision with Phoenix and to a lesser degree, even New Jersey. I think one thing might be certain though, Parise isn't going to be a Devil next season. it's also looking like Whitney and Doan could leave Phoenix since they are likely going to be having issues until at least November (assuming they can gather the signatures fast enough).

Stuart had his best years with the Sharks so hopefully (for you, not so much for Kings fans) he can regain whatever he's been missing.

so, Lundqvist wins the Vezina, Malkin wins the Hart. I'm bummed that Quick didn't win, but I can't say I'm surprised. besides, I think the Conn Smyth and Stanley Cup will help him deal with it

Damn. Sure hope it's around $6mm or less. That's is a loooong time to commit to a goaltender. Happy for him though. And he sure as hell is one of the elite goaltenders in today's game.

Rinne gets $7m but no where near 10 years. I wouldn't be surprised either way, but I'd like to think he'd be willing to sign around $6m with the long term. I also wouldn't bat an eye at $7m.

He's worth $7mm but I am more concerned about the cap hit. But hey- in Dean We Trust! Very good day for us.

NOBODY should ever be happy when their team signs a goalie for more than 5 years, I don't care if its the buttbaby of ron hextall and patrick roy. lombardi up to his old shark-era dipshit shenanigans, he just royally buttfucked the kings organization come 4-6 years.

Seriously. Ask Canucks fans what they think of Luongos contract.

I don't see it that way at all. it's not like there's a NTC/NMC involved (Lombardi never gives those out) and if the term is $6m or under it's a fair deal for a generational talent like Quick's. The only downside is if he gets injured, and with his style it's a real possibility, but the Kings are in excellent position for years to come in regards to the cap and they will be able to manage it just fine.

I guess we'll find out in 4-5 years - hopefully the Kings have some more hardware before we get that far!!

Some contract buyouts are inevitable in our future. And the length of this signing does give one pause. But Quick would easily have gotten this money elsewhere. When we're celebrating another Stanley Cup win during his tenure, his contract will be nothing but a passing thought. Luongo is not a good comparison. Why? Because what the hell have the Canucks ever won with him?

Btw, anyone slamming Lombardi at this point needs to remember this

plus, right now the Kings are closer to the cap FLOOR than they are the cap CEILING. if any team has the room to spend on a home grown superstar, it's the Kings.

Right. Although the objective should not be to hit the actual cap ceiling, we are truly in a good position to offer these types of contracts to key players. We have a few more big ones coming up, too. But with Stoll, Fraser, Quick and (I hope) Penner, soon to be resolved, we are position well to return the same team next year to the ice. Unlike, for example, the Blackhawks team of 2010.

it's $58m total for the contract and the cap hit is $5.8 per. take that, haters!

it's front loaded as well, so the last couple years are ~$3m

sharks sign hall of famer and stanley cup winning coach Larry Robinson to a 2 year contract to act as 'associate' coach. If that addition bolsters our PK as much as it looks like it will on paper(and you can't get as bad as it was last year), the rest of the pacific division is quite fucked in 2013.

NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of the 2012-13 regular-season schedule through October 24. A total of 82 regular-season games were scheduled for Oct. 11 through Oct. 24.

The cancellation was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players' Association and the NHL.
Sigh. We knew this was coming.

I still don't get why the would go in another lockout. I feel like popularity of the NHL was just starting to come back the past couple seasons from the last lockout and another season long one would do more bad then good for the NHL.

I like that it preserves the full 82 game season. Please please please please! Otherwise I will have nothing to watch after my Giants win the world series. I could not care less about tall dudes throwing an orange ball into a horizontal ring with a net hanging from it.

Please god let this come to pass. I would love to see the season start on Nov. 2nd. But it's probably still more realistic to see it start in December if they can get past the petty BS and agree to this deal or at least one close to it.

Bye bye, November. even though I side with the players, they better realize that the owners are in this for the long haul and will NOT be broken unless this stretches beyond 2 seasons. the sooner they accept pretty much any deal the owners offer, the sooner they (and the fans) can get on with it.

What will Penner, Parros and all those other players that always have awesome 'staches in Mo'Vember do now?
