TomAz who do you root for?
TomAz who do you root for?
well in theory I root for my alma mater. Well, in practice, too, though it's hard because they are one of the worst teams in 1-A and are never on TV and play in a shitty conference. (Rice, C-USA).
Other than that I guess I root for ASU and whoever is playing Texas A&M that week.
The Owls, eh? I didn't know the Aggies were you guys' rivals. Anyhow, you all had a nice baseball team a few years back. My first alma mater doesn't have a football team anymore since George Allen died back in 1992 (CSULB) and the other is USC, so I dual root for them in all sports but football. Rice is a Christian school right?
not rivals so much as polar opposites. A&M is all about regimentation, militarism, conformity, and being a redneck. They're ugly, hairychested stupid monkeys with chewing tobacco stains on their teeth.. and that's just the women.
baseball.. we were in the CWS again this year.
THE University of Southern California...
HS--
What are your thoughts on Sanchez at QB?
Will he hold off Mustain & be the starter?
Mustain has supposedly impressed a lot of people in
the program since he transferred from Arkansas.
Cannot wait to see what Joe McKnight does this year.
He is a legit Heisman hopeful!
RICH RODRIGUEZ IS A TOOL!
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Former West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez and the University of Michigan have agreed to pay a $4 million buyout and settle a lawsuit that WVU filed after he broke his contract in December.
Rodriguez will pay $1.5 million in three annual payments beginning January 2010. The Wolverines athletic department, his new employer, will pay $2.5 million by the end of July and cover Rodriguez's legal fees, the University of Michigan said in a statement Wednesday
I see Mark Sanchez as the starter at the beginning of the year. He has the qualities that make him a slight more valuable over Mustain. His ability to scramble and make plays is going to be necessary with the possibility of McKnight not being able to play due to academic issues. Also, the underwhelming nature of their receiver corps is going to need to be resolved. I think Patrick Turner, Ronald Johnson, and Damien Williams will finally live up to their pedigree and provide targets worthy of the arms of Sanchez/Mustain.
I would give McKnight one more year before saying he's Heisman worthy. I think he stays for his Junior year and then bolts for the NFL. I would like to see Marc Tyler and Stafon Johnson's progress. The money is going to be made on the defensive side.
I sure hope McKnight has his academic issues cleared up.
His quickness is so impressive.
Our defense looks good! DE Everson Griffin was a stud in high school here in AZ. He made some impact as a true freshman last year. I look for him to be dominant this year.
Are you going to the Ohio State game? I would like to. But I have a feeling it may be cost prohibitive.
I don't think there's any tickets left and I'm still waiting to see if my connect is going to have some tickets for me this year. He said he has a couple for the Oregon, Arizona, Arizona St., and Washington games, but only the Sun Devil game looks to be any bit of a thriller. I will probably watch the game with a former co-worker who went to Ohio St. and if we are to win, I'm sure I'll be on full brag mode with him for the remainder of the year.
I have 3 of my best lifelong buddies (2 of them graduated from SC) coming over to AZ in Oct & we will party hard for the weekend & go down to Tucson for the UofA slaughter. Should be a good time.
Probably will hit a game in LA at some point too.
My buddies are paying scalpers for the OSU game & want me to also.
I think I will watch on TV rather than pay hundreds for a nosebleed seat.
I hear that the U of A and ASU rivalry is as dirty as they come. I sometimes go over to the scout posting boards to catch some of the war or words and it is pretty nasty. I would rate it second in our conference behind the nastiness of the 'SC - UCLA rivalry. If you've ever came out for one of those, Bakersfield, you would be amazed at the brutality. I went to the game where Reggie Bush saved us @ the Rose Bowl against the Bruins and there were soooo many unsportsmanship like acts on both sides that it kinda ruined it. Does it get that nasty down there in the AZ?
I can vouch for that ugliness in the USC-UCLA rivalry. I had some douchebag UCLA fan threaten to shit on my eye because I walked by wearing USC gear. The best part of his taunt was when he accidentally backed right into a cop escorting an unruly UCLA fan out of the stadium. The cop yelled at him to watch where he was going and gave him a shove to move him out of his way. The guy looked like he was going to shit himself.
As for the U of A-ASU rivalry, it may be bad at games, but I honestly haven't seen much animosity in real world Arizona. I have many friends who have the schools, and it doesn't get much further than friendly "ASU is going to dominate U of A" type stuff. USC and UCLA seems to spill out in random places.
For your health
Most of the times, the Bruin fans don't really mess with me when I sport 'SC colors--I guess it has something to do with the formerly shaved head and all, but I've seen some stupid stuff go down. The one time I saw the game @ the Coliseum, I saw a Bruins fan yell at this 10-year old girl some rather classless things but none more than the, "Start sucking a whole lotta cocks, because daddy ain't affording your tuition." Suffice to say, the group of Samoans took care of the guy. It can get real nasty when it comes down to the Crosstown Rivalry.
I have not been to an ASU - U of A game. Usually only see the in state teams when they play SC. Like this year, when we go down to Tucson it will be to see SC kill the 'cats...
But these two schools (and cities) hate each other!
It gets pretty bad. In basketball too.
I hear it on local sports radio all the time.
So bad that when Steve Kerr played for U of A the ASU fans chanted PLO, PLO....because Steve's dad was assassinated by the PLO in Beirut. He was some kind of Ambassador.
Steve was seen crying in the shootaround...
How classless is that?
Tucson is the butt of many in-state jokes.
Similar to Bakersfield when I was growing up there in CA.
I have been to plenty SC-UCLA games over the years & you are right.
That gets ugly. Downright hateful.
I love that shirt that SC kids wear...
FUCLA !

That's right! I heard about the Steve Kerr thing and that's downright dispicable. I mean, it's one thing to slam 'SC for being the college of choice of Orenthal James Simpson, but to yell PLO at Kerr is just on another level. There were a few chants going on in 'SC in regards to Justin Medlock and his DUI which nearly killed his female passenger. The crowd was yelling Coward at him.The one thing, though, I'm kinda disappointed is the violence that goes on @ 'SC-UCLA games. It isn't usually the students/alumni who get into the melee, it is those fringe supporters that are not indicative of the diehard fans who've been there when Marinovich and Rob Johnson toiled in the John Robinson and Larry Smith eras. That gives this rivalry a dirty side to it.
Ooh...this year ND comes to town! That's a game I need to get tickets for! It could be the final step to making it to the BCS Championship!!!
Enough of this USC crap. Let's talk about the SEC.
Can't spell the SEC without the SC...lol.
The SEC can eat a di#k for all I care, but since this is a discussion about NCAA football, I'll say my piece.
I'm not completely sold on Georgia being the team to beat out of the SEC. I do see Tebow and the Gators being the pivotal match-up for Knowshon Moreno & Co. to overcome. How will the Bulldogs pull together after Uga VI passed away recently? I don't see LSU winning the SEC West because they've lost Perriloux and a host of defenders from that defense. With that being said, you cannot count out them and look for an improvement for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide this year. Also, can Petrino bring his style of play down to Arkansas and change a once running game based offense to his spread option/fast break O?
My darkhorse pic for the SEC is...the other USC...the Gamecocks of South Carolina.
