Thread: Mega acts are probably lining up to headline 2009...

  1. #1

Default Mega acts are probably lining up to headline 2009...

    Hear me out:

After all the press Prince got, coupled with the word-of-mouth, I think a serious oneupmanship is going to be going on. I mean if you're Bowie or Plant/Page (perhaps Jagger/Richards?) or whoever, you're ego isn't going to simply let Prince's performance stand. You're going to want to make your mark.

    That's my theory anyways.

Your theory is flawed. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$. Nothing else.

This is the most opportune moment for them to get the Smiths to reunite. Aside from that or Led Zeppelin, I can't imagine what else can top this year. Bowie's legendary, but come on, he's been more or less expected the past few years, cropping up on everyone's fake posters.

Damn, I thought the backlash this year was uncalled for when the lineup was announced, I can't imagine how disapointed people are going to be next year when they see that Zeppelin and Bowie aren't there. Mind you i'm one of the few that don't really give a damn about seeing Zeppelin or Bowie.

U2 don't do festivals so they're out. The Smiths are never reuniting nor are Pink Floyd. I never want to see kiddie fiddler Jackson ever other than at the end of a noose.

I agree...I just don't see what other MEGA acts are left to try to one up Prince and Roger Waters.

    Would KISS count?

Coachella has always found a way.....I don't necessarily see that "MEGA" acts are needed to top this year.......part of the greatness of Coachella has always been the strength of the entire lineup, starting with the bands in small print....when did it become necessary to get the biggest act possible? Coachella is legendary because of the experience, not because of the top line of the poster

lol hell no Kiss don't count.

Not even just the Prince/Waters combo but add that Portishead performance to the mix and there is no way anything will ever compare. I'm going into next year with very very low expectations so that I have another great time!

I would almost agree with the U2 comment, if it wasn't for Madonna and Prince being added the last few years...both of these guys never did festivals to begin with. So coachella is pretty good about that...

hahaha - just to be clear, I was kidding.

In the last two years I've seen artists at Coachella that I never thought I'd get to see: Jesus and Mary Chain, Bjork, Portishead, Aphex Twin, Goldfrapp, The Verve, Mum...on and on. As long as they keep bringing the great avant-garde acts, great mid-tier bands and reunions, they won't need any mega acts.

I think we were merely pointing out the consesus on KISS....nothing against you. At least I thought it was a joke.

My guess for the headliners next year will be some combination of 3 of these 5 acts. Bowie, Radiohead, Muse, Massive Attack or Daft Punk.

I would highly approve of said headliers...as long as Massive Attack have the production set up they had on their 2003 tour...or something better...Also, I think some repeat headliners are almost a must for next year...I can even almost see GV doing a poll to see what the fans want to return....given the anniversary and what not...

I disagree... the following line-up would blow away Prince/Waters w/Portishead

    Friday: Daft Punk (w/new album)
    Saturday: Radiohead/OutKast
    Sunday: Led Zeppelin

Ugh! I forgot about Outkast! Perfect reunion band for 2009...plus no one will be able to complain by lack of Hip Hop if they are there....
