Thread: Pitchfork: Prince, Waters "in another league"

Default Pitchfork: Prince, Waters "in another league"

    http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/articl...coachella-2008

Let's remove Roger Waters and Prince from this conversation, because they're in a different league-- superstars with decades behind them. So, if we pretend for a moment that they don't exist, then My Morning Jacket performed hands down my favorite set
Nice write up on the festival. Looks like they did a 180 on their early opinion.

yea totally they are in another league. the best artists are irrelevant and coachella proves that.

Those two acts will go down as two of my best concert experiences of all time. Both sets were superb.

Prince showed an energy and confidence I've never seen in any live performer, if he had his way, he would be doing the job of every single person working the venue... possibly because he can do their job just as well if not better than they can, he's that good.

Roger Waters... I think this picture sums it up.

(PLUS) Goldfrapp, Kraftwerk, Portishead, The Verve - not necessarily in that order

In terms of live ability, there's no question Pitchfork is 100% correct in that statement.

The article was incorrect: Animal Collective didn't have sound difficulties. Mojave Tent was running late all night from whoever performed before Scars on Broadway.

lulz I camped with Joe Crosby, who co-authored that review. Strange character. Not at all who you would expect to be covering it for Pitchfork. Definitely not a 24 year old LA hipster.

ya...saturday mojave was a mess of tardiness...the islands / kraftwerk conflict was painful. But I think I made the right choice. Islands will tour all over for their new album. But its not likely to see four german robots on the anniversary of tsernobyl anytime soon

That reviewer seems to have a seething disgust for The Verve. His review of their performance was wayyyyyy, way off.

Bee is right. Kate Nash actually finished a couple minutes ahead of schedule. SOB didn't go on until almost an hour after she'd finished.

I kinda dig My Morning Jacket but after Prince and Waters, I don't know how you ignore that wonderful set by Portishead!

I will continue to fully support any comments about Coachella 08 being the best concert event ever attended.

My Morning Jacket is probably one of the best current rock band when it comes to live performances. I'm not a huge fan of their albums, but every time I see them live they rock hard. They are a really really really great live band.

The delays were Scar's fault, they brought out big rugs and spent the whole time for sound check taping it down. If they hadn't bothered with the rug than they could have done sound check and been on time.

During one of the many interludes Prince took between particularly lengthy workouts, there was an arpeggiated chord progression that sounded familiar, but just a bit…off. But all of a sudden, "When you were here before…" You looked at the person to your right in confusion. "Couldn't look you in the eye." And then to the left as you were starting to realize what the fuck was happening.

A PERFECT discription of how I reacted from the first chord to Prince singing those first lines. It was like, ''Holy FUCK! Prince is doing CREEP!"
