Out of the four incredible coachellas I have been to 05,06,07,08, I think my greatest moment was watching Peter murphy with Bauhaus hang above the crowd singing Bela lugosis dead.

I have too many...
Hearing Sigur Ros play Popplagith for the 1st time in 2001
Seeing Bjork walk onto the stage in 2002
Radiohead playing Planet Telex in 2004
Bjork's hurricane of a Pluto in 2007
Aphex Twin going into full on RDJ mode this year.
Beth jumping into the crowd during Portishead's final song.
Having a fucking plane and pig fly over us during Roger Waters.
my fav moment (granted i've only been to 2) was listening to DSotM. its cheesy i know, but it was so spectacular, and it was more of being in the moment kind of thing.
my second would be hanging out with friends during RHCP in 2007. I dunno, their set just seemed so cool after a grueling saturday (heat wise), it was nice to mellow out.
I have more:
Pixies playing Vamos and Jonny Greenwood watching from the side in 04
Win Butler from Arcade Fire getting electrocuted in 05
The Hives lead singer dodging a show thrown from the crowd and asking "does it look like I need a shoe?" in 03
if you count what you might have seen in the blue room, finn bro getting the water bottle thrown at him during the crowded house gig ... maybe not the "best" moment, but one that sticks out ...x****
Coachella Wk2 04/19-04/21
Wakarusa 05/30-06/02
Bonnaroo 06/13-06/16
Dave Matthews Band 08/23-08/24
BurningMan 08/26-09/02
VooDoo 11/01-11/03
Bridge Benefit 10/???
i have a few:
Daft Punk in 2006(all aspects)
Pixies in 2004(entire set)
Portishead this year(when Beth sang Roads)
the whole set was magical but this particular moment moved me
to tears.
Bauhaus in 2005(when Peter Murphy sang Bela Lugosi while hanging
upside down) I kept myself from saying the f bomb over and over in
amazement.

* seeing the cure for the first time with my boyfriend and best friend at the time in 2004.
* air's sunset set in 2004
* making out with a hot friend during depeche mode
* trent singing closer in 2005. i don't think i'd ever really heard that song until that moment.
* daft punk teasing "da fank" for like 12 minutes before finally dropping it.
i think pelle could easily win the funniest frontman ever award. i remember when they were playing at the KROQ weenie roast in 04 and velvet revolver were trying to soundcheck on the other side of the rotating stage and he stopped the show to yell "hey! guys! shut the fuck up! noone wants to hear you play! they're here to listen to us not you!" or something like that
I had plenty of artist-related moments this year, but the moment that sticks out most in my head is this: I was on the bleachers at the outdoor stage, waiting for Vampire Weekend to start. I finished my bottle of water, and I threw it into the recycling bin a few feet away. Well, there was a gentleman between the bin and me, so the bottle went over his head. He spent a good five seconds looking up at the sky, like God himself had dropped a plastic bottle. Luckily, the boy sitting next to me had witnessed this, so I had someone with whom to giggle.![]()
coachella 2004
muse, radiohead, pixies
I have so many but my top three are...
~Rodrigo and Gabriela's "Wish You Were Here," sing along.
~Liz Fraser singing "Teardrop," and just seeing Massive Attack.
~Daft Punk.
Coachellian since 2005.
my first year I walked right in and camped at the mainstage never budged, who would have known the addiction that coachella would become for me. Yes I learned one day was not enough and camping at one stage just would not do.
Last year's 1st BBQ sandwich.
Whiskey Sour
2 oz blended whiskey
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1 cherry
1/2 slice lemon
Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.
In 2004 (our first year) my friends and I as well as some Welsh friends we'd met the night before got to the capgrounds waaaaay too early, they weren't even prepared for people yet. Rather than kick us out, or let us in early, they locked us in a vacant parking lot in the blazing sun for something like 6 hours. This was both the most miserable and most memorable Coachella experience I've had.
I agree with the Bauhaus comment, I still brag to people about that. You didn't get that anywhere else on their tour as far as I know.
being up front at the bar for Gang of Four-New Order-Nine Inch Nails
being up front at the bar for Kraftwerk-Portishead-Prince
This was my girlfriends first Coachella (also first time on a plane, etc.) and Portishead was the only thing she was REALLY into at first, and Beth Gibbons grabbed her arm. I thought she was going to explode.
"Yes, I am indeed beautiful! Sometimes I sit and wonder, in my artless Japanese way, why it is that I am so much more attractive than anybody else in the whole world. Can this be vanity? No! Nature is lovely and rejoices in her loveliness. I am a child of Nature, and take after my mother."
For me, my favorite Coachella moment was the year that my friend got us backstage passes and we were on stage while Interpol played the Outdoor Stage. The Blue Man Group's stuff made it so we couldn't stand on the side. So instead, we just stood behind the band. It was a different experience to hear the music from the onstage monitors instead. It was also kind of cool to look out on a sea of faces looking up at you.
My other favorite moment was seeing Belle and Sebastian play. I had no idea what kind of music they played. I had heard of them but never heard their music. It was totally different than what I expected. And I actually liked it. It's not the kind of music I'd normally listen to, but I've been a fan ever since.
Last cool Coachella moment for me was last year, when I went with my 60 year old aunt and she had a blast.
highlights from 06-08:
Wish You Were Here singalong with R and G.
"Daft Punk" chant in the sahara until they appeared and the crowd lost it.
Gogol Bordello in 07 when Eugene tells the security gaurd, "i'm a grown man i know what i'm doing"
Comedians of Comedy crowd sitting down in the Gobi
Prince announcing "co-a-chella, i am here"
but my personal coachella moment, which made me want to return year after year:
Dungen in 06. them swedes could fucking play! they tripped me out and i didn't even need drugs!
That Prince one is pretty up there on my list.
Whiskey Sour
2 oz blended whiskey
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1 cherry
1/2 slice lemon
Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.
Roger's "That's my pig"
Neighbors tripping on acid woke up in the morning found shrooms in her shoes
Rage 07
I'm gonna take us back aways, back to '99. Does anyone else remember the orange streamer things that Tool had going during 46&2? How about Osseus Labyrinth hanging over the stage during Sober and more? That was truly an incredible show that still ranks in my top 5 favorite live sets ever seen. Daft Punk in '06 is right up there. I also remember looking back at the full moon as Radiohead performed Sail to the Moon. Kinda cheesy, I know, but one of my most indelible memories.
Broken Social Scene '04 - Emily Haines singing "Anthems for a 17 year old girl"
BREATHTAKING
my fav set of all time
close seconds:
- looking over to my buddy during "Caribou" by the Pixies and sharing that 'this is fucking amazing' moment
- Bjork in '07
- stumbling into the Teddybears set in '07 and becoming a fan for life
- watching LCD Soundsystem's "All my friends" with all my friends
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.
i have too many, but the highlights of 08 were...
chromeo [coachella knows how to party]
singing neil diamonds "sweet caroline" before justice.
that song is awesome.
neil diamond for 09 anyone?
I've only been to '06 and '08, but
-discovering how fuckin awesome the Go! Team were in '06
-Thousands of people at screaming the lyric "SO FUCKING USELESS!" when Bloc Party played "Positive Tension" in '06
-the pure electronic goodness that was James Zabiela and Boys Noize's back-to-back sets in '08
-Finally understanding what all the hype is about after seeing Prince and Sia's sets.
Oops... almost omitted a biggy. Daft Punk. 'Nuff said lol.
If y'all fresh to death, then I'm deceased... -Kanye West
Jamiroquai 2014 please.
