wow, how weird. im watching the playoffs, atl vs bos, and all i guess they were playing sweet caroline and the crowd was singing it. the song stopped and the whole crowd kept going, just like at justice! is this some new thing?! the announcers even were talking about it!

I don't want to date myself here (I'm young at heart and that's what counts), but back in the early '90s when I was in college and DJing quite a bit (party DJing, not cool DJing) that was the premier frat-house sing-along song and drunk at the bars anthem... It's a sing-along tradition at Fenway Park in Boston during Red Sux games, as well, which is why Neil Diamond is playing Fenway Park later this summer on his tour. That's probably due to the fact that the city is such a huge college town, as much as anything else.

That said, I'm reviewing his new album right now for a website I write for, and seeing as it was produced by Rick Rubin (he who resurrected Johnny Cash's career), the sound definitely lends itself to a hipper audience... I'll go on the record right now and say that I wouldn't be shocked if Neil Diamond ended up on Coachella next year. It's no stranger than Willie Nelson or Dwight Yoakam, and given the response to "Sweet Caroline" prior to Justice, it could make for one of the more memorable (and random) Coachella sets. Can you imagine the entire mainstage audience singing along at 5 in the afternoon? Could be brilliant...

It's not new, although I was shocked how many people were into that song at this bar (McFadden's?) I went to in Columbus, OH once.

I could go for a random Niel Diamond set at 09. I love Neil Diamond. (My father hates him though).
