How were they? Haven't seen anyone say either way. I wanted to see them until they lined up with Gogol Bordello.

they were pretty damn good, their whole crew on stage though seemed like "too cool for anything" la types which was kind of a turn off, the guitarist as well.

    but the music was good.

July 21- Soundgarden- Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
July 30- Rage Against the Machine/Muse- LA Coliseum
    Oct 21- Portishead- Berkeley Greek
Nov 18- Pixies- Fox Theater Bakersfield

Thought they were great. Can understand that the weird tunings would turn some people off though, so expect complaints. Sonic Youth fans would have dug it.

Cdubby, the "too cool" stage presence is 100% copped from the genre. Did you see JaMC last year?

too bad they haven't come out with any material since fucking 2004...i love autolux, but i feel like they're just dicking around with their fans at this point.

I was expecting more, but maybe I love them too much. The singer's voice isn't very powerful live, which isn't that surprising I guess, but I guess I was surprised by the strong vocals from Minus the Bear and The National, so I was hoping for a 3 for 3.

The whole non-stage banter act is sort of entertaining, but a little weird, and banter could have helped make up for their songs being slow and the performers being inactive.

I loved how shy the drummer was and how wide she smiled when she realized people knew Turnstile Blues. I loved the singer's personality too, if I hadn't identified with him I may not have enjoyed the show at all. And the guitarist was the definition of cool for me. He's a rock star (just not really a star?).

I agree about the LA types in the crew. Those two white guys in the shades were kinda pissing me off, acting like they didn't like the music, but then the guy on the right started tapping his foot (all better).
    Ron Paul 2012!

    Upcoming Shows:
    Four Tet
    Coachella 4/20-4/22
Death Cab for Cutie/Magik Magik Orchestra
    Radiohead
    some other bands

Yes, their guitar player was too cool for school.

Otherwise, I'd say they were better than average. Not great, but good. All the songs off Future Perfect were done well...there were a couple songs I didn't recognize that were a drawn-out a little long.

They were playing new material which was not good. They clunked their way through Future Perfect material. They were not entertaining. I want my money back.

THe new songs rocked my boat. It's my 4th time seeing them do the new material, and they've honed it. Hopefully they can get a label for the new album.

Not a lot of stage presence, but the new songs were great. Glad they played 'Turnstile Blues'. Can't wait for their new album.

I saw about 10 minutes of their show, mostly new songs. What I saw was good. I should've stayed longer because Gogol kind of sucks.

Booka Shade was really really amazing. Had no interest in going but landed up in the tent anyways. One of the highlights of 08.

I've seen Autolux before, I think in 2004, and thought they sounded pretty good. It was a night time set indoors, and I'm wondering how much of the "blah" attitude of the band was due to the temperature/weather at Coachella. While I enjoyed listening to their set, it was pretty boring visually, and in my memory, their singer sounded a lot better.

I LOVED their set. I can understand if people don't automatically like the new songs. It took me a couple listens to actually like them.
I just love watching them play, even though they don't have amazing "stage presence". That's ok with me, I could watch them for hours. I loved everything about their set.

Well almost.. What I didn't love was the stupid high schoolers who were probably waiting for Metric. Die now. You're not cool because you smoke weed and drink. Go try some harder drugs. Heroin! Get the job done quicker.

Anywho, their new single is on their myspace page...and I love it.

i was really looking forward to them.......extremely disappointed... I thought the sound was terrible for them. I thought the sound was really bad for Manchester Orchestra as well right before ......Then Metric came on and blew them away.

the sound on the outdoor stage was mixed like a rock show that day...everything right up front and present...which a band like metric could totally take advantage of and sound amazing...but autolux, manchester orchestra and love & rockets really suffered from those rock sensibilities...coming off much harsher and rougher sounding then they normally would have.

it's like some meals taste better when the flavors stay distinct while others are better when the flavors are allowed to mix together and become something else. metric is the former...while the others are the latter.
