Oh yeah got a Row A Front Orchestra ticket earlier..........SO pumped! Already my most highly anticipated show of 2010. But then again, I only have this and 2 rescheduled Sonic Youth shows planned for next year so far, so that's not saying a lot.

You can allegedly get a download link here...Dirty Projectors Release Free Single
Near the end of last year, Dirty Projectors released a four-track, UK-only EP featuring two new songs from the sessions for their excellent Bitte Orca album. UPDATE: According to Domino, the EP was never actually came out. This is the first time these songs are being released. And now everyone who didn't track those songs down back then can download them for free with full consent from the band. No guilt, no problem.
According to a MySpace message, 20 people who download the "Ascending Melody" 7" will get an actual vinyl copy of the single, which is backed by "Emblem of the World". (We reviewed "Ascending Melody" back in November.) The vinyl version is also on sale now at Domino. Sign up for the free download via a handy widget, which is embedded below.
The band also have a tour of Australia and New Zealand coming up-- preceded by a couple gigs in New York and Los Angeles. Check out the dates after the jump:

Has anyone actually received the download yet? I've given it every email address I have twice and nothing.

I haven't either, but there are other places to download it. Like here.
Really like Ascending Melody. I remember them doing a song called Ascending Melody when I saw them and I thought it sounded a lot different.
Huh? Are the "Ascending Melody" and "Emblem of the World" on Ascending Melody different from Temecula Sunrise/Cannibal Resource versions?Near the end of last year, Dirty Projectors released a four-track, UK-only EP featuring two new songs from the sessions for their excellent Bitte Orca album. EDIT: Oh, they're the same.

Back in 2005, an earlier iteration of the Dirty Projectors released their concept album The Getty Address, which Pitchfork's Jason Crock called "a modern opera about post-9/11 America, the destruction of our natural wilderness, the confrontation between Hernan Cortes and the Aztecs in the early 16th century, and a protagonist named after Don Henley." An ambitious album, to say the least.
Dirty Pro frontman Dave Longstreth has come a long way since that album, but he hasn't forgotten it. And at two forthcoming shows in New York and Los Angeles, the band will play the album in full, with the 15-piece ensemble Alarm Will Sound and conductor Alan Pierson helping out. They'll also play songs from last year's Bitte Orca at both shows.
The New York show will go down February 19 at Lincoln Center, as part of the American Songbook concert series. The L.A. show is scheduled for February 27 at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the band will co-headline with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. During the first half, the Philharmonic will play orchestral pieces that Longstreth picked out. The band will take over and play the album during the second half. Big things for the Dirty Projectors! The L.A. Philharmonic doesn't rock with just anyone, after all.
Also! Back when the band released the album, Longstreth wrote a letter to Don Henley (the real Don Henley) explaining the album and why he decided to name his main character after the Eagles frontman. You can read it over at the Getty Address website.

Wow, they're gonna play The Getty Address in full!!?! THAT'S the part you should have bolded, supre. Awesome.
Edit: And with the fucking orchestra. This show just took on a whole new level of excitement.

really really awesome. wish i could make it.
Just saw them, fucking phenomenal. Do not miss them at Coachella. Really, don't.
Probably. Their drummer has a unique stlye and just owns it. All three girls were right on point. The one who plays keyboard and sings Two Dove was just fucking phenomal. With that one song she put Joanna Newsom to shame. The one who sings Stillness Is The Move ... well I'll just say it sounds nothing like on the album was wasn't anything close to the Two Doves girl. All around though, such a solid band. Great stuff.
So glad to hear it. I know Tall Chris has been singing their praises as a live band for some time too.
they are totally in my top 5 MUST-SEES this year.

Yeah, him and Blackswan. Those guys are 100% right. I'll gives some credit to Brandon (hawingreeve) and Tommyboy as well for their roo reviews.
Yep, their show at the Troubadour last year was light years better than their Disney Hall show with the LA Phil a few weeks ago.
And yeah, the drummer! Based on the DP recordings, I really didn't anticipate percussion as hard-hitting and intense as it was live. But yeah, the guy goes off.
And they didn't play "Two Doves" when I saw them last year, but I always thought it was Amber who sang that song (the girl who sings lead vocals on "Stillness"). Hmm, must have had it wrong.
But yeah, if you haven't seen them before literally skip anyone else who they might conflict with. With how little must-sees there are on Saturday, don't miss them. You'll regret it.

For some reason I struggle to imagine them being great at Coachella on a hot day and a giant outdoor stage with a crowd of thousands. But they got nothing but rave reviews for their Bonnaroo set so I'm surely wrong... plus, I need something to headline Saturday for me personally.

I saw them in New York for their shows at the Music Hall in Brooklyn last November, by far two of the best shows I had seen all year. The Disney Hall show with the LA Phil was not as good, different vibe and music but still pretty underwhelming. Their regular live sets that they tour are phenomenal, I wouldn't miss them at Coachella or even if they stop near you on one of their tours.
I will not be missing their set.
