    Default Aphex Twin

Was anybody a little underwhelmed by the performance? Granted it is RICHARD JAMES and yes HE WAS THERE AND PLAYING IN AMERICA, but I felt like he wasn't really into it and more or less was just pressing play.. He seemed pretty nostalgic the whole time.. The playlist was amazing, but honestly I think Diplo killed it before he came on (with MIA coming on at the end too)..

The only thing Diplo killed was the art of mixing (or lack thereof in his case).

I wasn't really expecting anything different from Richard.

Yeah but Diplo wasn't sitting in a chair the whole time staring at the mixer...

I prefer seeing someone who actually seems like they are enjoying the crowd than someone who looks like they are just there to do their job..

Plus, Richard didn't say one word to the crowd.. I think I only saw him wail his arms once.. hah.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE APHEX TWIN WAY MORE THAN DIPLO.. I am just saying, performance wise, Diplo was way more into it, the crowd was way more into it, and the vibe was a lot better.

Diplo was alright. He's pretty much a twin of Girl Talk, just has a different hair color.

What pissed me off was that when he played SMBU, he mixed it so that it cut to the break when the lyrics were supposed to start. That wasnt cool.

    as for Aphex...

he killed it. I loved the show. Him opening with one of my favorite Public Enemy tunes was really something for me. He played a very good set, probably my favorite of the day.

MIA always looks amazing. Aphex's set was definitely a colossal disappointment.

I am sorry but Aphex sucked.
Seeing a guy sitting pressing play on winamp just doesnt do it for me. I left after 10min to go get booze.

Pendulum, on the other hand, was sick.

Fatboy first 5 min were amazing. After that...... bleh.

Aphex Twin sucked. For a self proclaimed genius who's been making music since 13 he should have done more than booting up his laptop.

Diplo also sucked, my god what was that cheesy shit he was playing? I left when I heard Rob Base being crashed into Daft Punk.

I was expecting some kind of the chilled out tracks like the Florida LP.

Aphex was terrible - their set sounded like random, uniteresting noise. I was very disappointed with their performance.

i thought he put on a great show, then the PHENOMINAL performance by Pendulum, then another PHENOMINAL performance by FBS, great way to kick off the fest

I thought it was me because I am not too familiar with Aphex Twin - in terms of not understanding his set. I was there for most of the set, and had no problem getting near the front, as people were leaving faster than they were coming in. People weren't jumping up & down much - probably because the music was so fast & lacked any sense of melody. I was expecting at least a light show or something, but it was the same old laser lights & generic mixes on the big screens. I think the guy doing the cameras & video mixes was the same guy for all the shows on Friday. Kinda......boring. Audience shots would have been nice, like the ones at the Main Stage (although the Main Stage had a variety of technical issues with its screens). I was glad to see Aphex Twin, but I doubt I would come back for seconds.

First half SUCKED, second half was great. Averaged out to whatever. Very disappointing. Oh, and I know that he fit in the crazy break down drum part of "Come to Daddy" but throw us a fucking bone and blast "I Want Your Soul!" through the speakers! Just hearing that would have made up for so much.

Here's my take: It was a mind fuck. The first 20 minutes was meant to shake off the casual listeners. Only the hardcore fans & the curious were rewarded with an AT set.

Again, there is no reason you should have expected anything different than what you got.

Richard doesn't do anything but sit in front of his equipment. I don't think I've ever seen footage of him doing anything different.

Exactly, and he put on an excellent show. He's an expert knob twiddler, damn it! I only wish the Richard girl or bears came out to play instead of the generic animals, but eh- it was all about the music anyway.

European DJ's usually don't like Americans, they just come here to play music and get paid.
