Thread: Coachella Should Organize Shuttle Service

  1. #1

Default Coachella Should Organize Shuttle Service

After all these years of going to Coachella events and watching it grow from a small festival to the monstrous size it is now, I'm surprise the event organizer have not came up with a shuttle system yet. How inefficient it is with all the traffic, smog, & waste of time waiting in the hot desert sun. Wouldn't it be easier to have shuttles running to & from different hotels around town and maybe direct shuttles running from certain areas around LA? By limiting the amount of cars, it can alleviate a lot of congestion, both on the streets and in the parking lot. In addition, aren't we suppose to watch our carbon admission? It can't be healthy breathing exhaust all weekend either. It's nice that they try to propagate environmental awareness at the festival, but what about doing something about it instead. It's about time to ask the Coachella event organizer to organize some kind of transportation system for the festival.

try doing a little research before making ridiculous accusations.

I suppose a free seven car amtrak train from downtown LA with DJs, beer, and VIP passes doesn't cut it?

    get fucked.

The train from the airport to the venue is great. BUt they should have park and ride options from hotel lots or something to the venue (like Treasure Island did). Cuts way down on traffic. I've been an advocate of this for years.

I agree with captncrzy. There should better shuttle options. Not all of us live in LA and can use the free train shuttle thing. I personally need a shuttle from downtown Palm Springs.

Phoenix is the next major big city, they should totally do something for us Phoenicians. I'm jealous of the L.A. kids.

from what I remember, PT said that the coachella express this year was an experiment to see if people would be interested, and as far as I know it was a smashing success- I loved it, anyways. so I'm pretty confident that this year, there will be an expanded LA coachella express, and I'd expect they'd also run a phoenix route. it was so comfortable and relaxing to be able to travel like that... nothing compares.

They should have shuttle buses to the different parts of the parking lot!

It takes forever to walk in and out of Coachella. Damn polo grounds are too big hahah.

Stop being douchey. Not everyone can camp-and it's a good point that, while the downtown LA thing is a great idea, it would also be a great idea to do a park and ride service. I'd take a bus that drops me off at the front gate over driving my own car in any day.

Hotel shuttles would probably be something that the hotels need to organize themselves.

    Not hotel shuttles; park-and-ride shuttles.

Example-there is an event in Tempe that draws nearly 100,000 people a year. Some people drive and park down by the event. Others, like myself, drive to a specified location about two miles from the event, park there, and then hop on a shuttle bus down. It's easier.

yeah, but that does nothing in terms of a green initiative. and I don't see coachella doing anything that doesn't cover that angle. hotel shuttles are good, I think a couple of them do something, but I'm not sure.
and dude, come on, I wasn't being douchey. someone complained that the polo grounds were too big, and I told them to camp- that's even more walking, I was kidding, man!
of course, the other side of that is the following: if walking from your car to the gate is too much work, how are people going to handle walking from stage to stage all day?

It helps the "green initiative" by not having thousands of vehicles all in "idle" (which burns gas and sends emissions into the air) while waiting to get out of the venue-especially when there's an accident at the exit to the venue (like Saturday last year-or Sunday, one of those days-there was an accident at the exit).

and besides that, the camping pass was what, sixty bucks? and round-trip greyhound fare is how much? gas would be how much? even if you bought the pass and didn't camp, it was still a cheap, clean, comfortable transport option

it would be nice going to the show, but imagine the clusterf**k at the end of the night with everyone leaving at the same time and those shuttles having to contend with all the other traffic leaving.

I'm very fortunate to live really close to the fest, and it pisses me off the way hotels jack their prices up the way they do. I realize that's business, but let's not get downright greedy! Considering most of them sell out way in advance, the least they could do to say thank you is provide this service. When I see you guys say you paid $300 for a room that would really be $90 if the fest weren't here, I lose alot of respect for our hospitality industry in this bum-fucked place Hell, they could even offer like a $2 ride from hotels, or like Captncrzy mentioned...shuttle areas. They'ld still make some $$$ and perhaps even appease the petty-assed residents that complain about the traffic, etc. Duh!

Maybe the shuttles could have their own enterance/exit (like they could come and go the way the artist's busses do). I'd be willing to pay for a service that picks me up at a designated location, drops me off near the entrance, and is there waiting when I stumble out later.

The security guards gave us a ride on their golf carts on 3 different occasions to the gate. They were mostly very decent people so next time just smile at one of them and hope they let you hop on.

all those one lane roads make something like that difficult due to the traffic flow after the show. i think cars are leaving the lots in pretty much every direction before being sent out to the main roads, so trying to go against that would be a mess.

Someone makes a very valid, articulate, argument for much-needed mass-transit in and out of the festival and is ridiculed for it, by the board moderator no less. The Coachella Express was a good start, but the fact that the only attempt to promote effecient transit in and out of the festival for non-campers is the laughable Carpoolchella is frankly inexcusable. Hey Psychic Friend: you've been thinking about this for 10 years and that's the best you can come up with? A fucking pipe-dream contest that 12 people out 100,000 are going to win each year? Just keep pounding your face into your keyboard for another decade and by then the price of a gallon of gas will be more than a 3 day ticket and everyone will be walking, or riding horses anyways. Problem solved.
