No kidding. Ha, it's kind of unsettling to me that someone would want to translate Sigur Ros lyrics. I feel like that defeats the purpose of the band's music (for me). To each their own though, of course.

I had thought for years that all of the lyrics were in the "made-up language." I like it better that way.

I agree, I read translations of their lyrics and it kinda ruined it for a bit.

Dude, how does it defeat the purpose of the bands music? They have been huge on playing their music for the people of Iceland with many of the songs drawing inspiration from the country itself. There are people who know that language. Its not magically english-centric because they have rabid fans who don't know the language.

And you have to remember that the context and deliverance is lost in a lot of translations. Its like people getting chinese characters tattooed on them. They might be correct from a technical standpoint but its not what a Chinese person would use.


Now I really want to speak with someone about their music who speaks Icelandic to get their take on things.

I always make up my own translation of there music depending on what the song sounds like. Example Heysatan I imagine a person at war writing a letter to hiw wife describing his time (lame I know but that's the feeling I get from it). Then I looked up the translation for that song and a few others and they were nothing like I imagined it in my head.

That's part of the reason why I love them so much is because I don't understand the language that the lyrics can be whatever I want them to be.

I don't really have the desire to look up the translation to their lyrics either, but that's not to say I never will. Usually when I listen to music (including music in English) I don't listen to the lyrics right away anyway. I listen to how the voice is used as an instrument to compliment the other instruments in the band. The melody and in certain cases quality of singing is usually what's most important to me there.

This. I've never been one for lyrics myself, so I actually prefer that I can't understand or decipher anything Jonsi is singing. His voice has always just been another instrument in the band to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they've played Untitled 3 since 2002 () tour....I haven't seen them play it since then.

They played it in Boston in 2008, and a handful of times in 2006-07. And it is their best song, so it is a shame we won't hear it.
