Understandable. I know some of sigur ros' just out of being a huge fan for a long time. Just feel the need to address the "made up language" bit for sake of correctness.

Jonsi does sing in a made-up language sometimes. This is taken from their web site's FAQ:

what language does jónsi sing in?
on von, ágćtis byrjun and takk, jónsi sang most songs in icelandic but a few of the songs were sung in 'hopelandic'. all of the vocals ( ) are however in hopelandic. hopelandic (vonlenska in icelandic) is the 'invented language' in which jónsi sings before lyrics are written to the vocals. it's of course not an actual language by definition (no vocabulary, grammar, etc.), it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument. jónsi likens it with what singers sometimes do when they've decided on the melody but haven't written the lyrics yet. many languages were considered to be used on ( ), including english, but they decided on hopelandic. hopelandic (vonlenska) got its name from first song which jónsi sang it on, hope (von). tracks 7-9 on takk are in hopelandic.

Interesting. Icelandic sounds like a made up language too because I've literally never heard anyone speak it. I'm just getting into Sigur Ros so I don't totally get them yet, but their music is very moving. It doesn't really matter what he's saying when there is great composition like this.

I meant to say it sounds like a made up language to me personally because I've never heard it. I know it's not a made up language if that's what you were implying.

    Oh, and awesome video.

But it's not an actual language, as that FAQ answer states. Them calling it a language is pretension. Just to be clear though I find this use of non-language to be wonderful and amazingly effective; I am thrilled Jonsi sings this way.

Also damn I really wish I had gone to one of their shows in Brooklyn. It has been too long since I've seen a real set from them.

QFT. it really bothers me when people call it a language.

Fine, it's not a language. I'm not focusing on that. I can just see why Amy brought up a "made-up" element to what Jonsi is sometimes doing with his voice. That was the point.

Cutter was saying the titles are still in Icelandic, and that I should be able to be remember them or something because the titles are not in a made-up language.

I don't even know what we're talking about anymore. I know what Cutter was talking about, Amy. I was just trying to help you out and provide clarification, by citing their web site, as to what may have triggered the "made-up" aspect of Jonsi's vocals in your brain.

He didn't explain it like the web site explained it. I was just trying to give more background.

That's the last time I try to help you, Amy. You're pretty ungrateful. I'll just go back to my usual bit now.

Yes, but surely you know what that term means in the context of this conversation. I thought these types of conversations on the board were only relegated to time zones. We're all probably just bored.

The distinction people are going for is designed. Your play on words is not a play on meaning and is thus not funny. Try again.
