That writer can seriously go fuck herself for her "review" of Julia Holter.
The Rolling Stones - International Noise Conference: Los Angeles - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Austra - Colin Stetson - The Pacific Rim Projekt - The National - Goat Rodeo - Hopscotch 2013- GY!BE - Beirut/Vampire Weekend
Yeah, calling Julia Holter's set "pretentious" was a bit much. I enjoyed it.

This does make me wish I hadn't missed the sound installation though.

I didn't get pretentious at all from her Seattle set.
People just throw that word around when they don't like something and want to dismiss it.

Mostly I find people like to call something pretentious when they don't understand it and are intimidated by that fact, but that hardly applies to the Holter set.

It IS the same publication that just put out that ridiculous "best 30 EDM records of all time" article.

To be fair, I find Sigur Ros very pretentious. I have to be in the right mood to enjoy them. But when I am in the right mood, they're pretty amazing.
edit: and yes I know you're talking about their opener being pretentious. I'm just saying.
DURR, right, what i meant was the "Top 20 worst bands of all time," which was even dumber.

To be fair i've been listening to Sigur Ros regularly since 2006 and can't name much more than a couple of their songs so when people say they opened with #$%^ I'm all. Oh...that's what that song was called. I'm especially envious of those who know the difference between say Untitled 4 and Untitled 7. Without lyrics or song titles I just know the familiar sounds. I'm ok with simply loving their sound to death and listening to them without having all this information. Olsen Olsen and Hopopopoplolilililali are two I like a lot and I can recognize right away though.
Their Outside Lands set was fantastic. I said this in that thread but the part with smoke on their video screens and all the fog/mist in the air while they were performing was surreal. They also thanked S.F. for bringing Icelands weather to the fest and making them feel at home.
Yeah I don't know what the fuck any of their songs are called. I recognize them when I hear them, but I can't remember made-up language titles very well. There's that early song in which he sounds like a penguin they seem to play a lot. E-something something.
They sing some songs in Vonlenska. They sing some in Icelandic. Some songs even have both.
All of the titles are in Icelandic or on occasion English.
