I thought it was a Radiohead thread. I thought Sigur Ros were a made-up version of Radiohead.

2013 uk/europe headline tour
february & march 2013
sigur rós follow up their run of summer festivals by announcing their first headline tour since 2008 for uk/europe in february/march 2013. the 15-date run will see the band take the stage alongside all the additional players and expanded brass and string sections of the summer shows. this time, however, they will be incorporated into a completely new show, which also comes with the potent promise of brand new material, post-dating even this year's ambient-leaning 'valtari' album.
"you are limited to what you can accomplish with the 20-minute changeovers and all other constraints of a festival," says bassist georg holm. "to us, this summer's really been one long warm-up for what's to come."
there are rumblings from within the band of a "hard left turn" in terms of what these changes might constitute. suffice to say, for now it's set to be a compelling 'watch this space' scenario.

How likely is it that sigur ros will play in 2013? I must see them live again.
the weekend of 7-9 december, 2012, sigur rós will share a special edition of the valtari film experiment videos with fans at select screenings around the world.
a composite video including all the official mystery videos so far, along with bonus materials, will show at venues large, small, and smaller. where, with inni, the band specifically targeted very large, commercial venues, for the valtari film experiment the band targets smaller, avant garde-oriented venues – and also “house shows” and home theatre screenings. many exceptions will be granted, but this will be the general strategy.
as each screening takes place, a special website and password will be emailed to the venue’s manager. after the screening, the manager should share that website and password with the crowd. at that URL, audience members may enter a contest for deluxe valtari special editions. one winner will be selected from each of the seven continents – north america and south america counted separately, and antarctica also included – with two winners selected for asia, because it is the largest and most populous continent. (screening on antarctica is going to be a real challenge; we’re especially open to ideas there.)
essential technical note: the venue must be able to screen a quicktime video file. the venue – or someone coordinating the show – must also have a very, very fast internet connection to receive the file from us. essential content note: there is nudity.
please recognise that not all suggestions will be possible. if we’re not able to follow up, or things just don’t work out, please accept it with good spirits.
(yes, there will be some modest fees required of the venue or presenter. we also will have some geographic sensitivity, so that venues across the street from each other aren’t competing. let’s just see what’s possible.)

Dear Goldenvoice,
Please provide them a night time slot at Coachella 2013
'Brennisteinn' ushers in another shift in sound for the Icelandic superstars, ditching the ethereal sounds of 2012 album Valtari for a heavy, grunge-influenced sound - similar to that heard on first album Von.

UK fans had just one chance to see Sigur Ros perform live in 2012 - at their Bestival show in September this year. However, despite fans enjoyment of their festival gig, Sigur Ros described their performance as 'miserable' in an apology to fans.
The band performed at 6:30pm on the main stage on the final day of the Isle Of Wight festival in broad daylight - despite being promised a night time slot to make the most of the visuals and light show. An official statement blame the demands of Stevie Wonder for organisers' changing the band's performance time.
"Sigur rós would like to apologise to anyone disappointed not to see the band's Bestival performance live online last night," said an official statement from the band. "Early in the day a decision had been made to delay broadcast till after the show to give the band a chance to review the footage ahead of webcast, since they were dismayed that their guaranteed "darkness" slot had been pushed into daylight by the expansive demands of the headliner.

sigur rós follow up their run of summer festivals by announcing their biggest north american tour to date. the trek, which includes a headlining show at new york city’s prestigious madison square garden, will be the most expansive sigur rós live experience yet, with the band taking the stage alongside all the additional players and expanded brass and string sections of the summer shows. this time, however, they will be incorporated into a completely new show, which also comes with the potent promise of brand new material, post-dating even this year's ambient-leaning 'valtari' album.
the band recently debuted a new song, "brennisteinn," at this year’s iceland airwaves festival, which was greeted with immediate praise upon being posted online.
"’brennisteinn’ ("brimstone") was violent, rude and irresistible: slow, mourning rock with bass tones so low and loud they rattled the floor, cut with a stubbornly delicate romanticism,” said rolling stone’s david fricke about the new track. “but just as the end seemed near and you expected the band to stomp off into their usual ether, the rhythm changed for the faster, with bassist georg holm and drummer orri páll dyrason locking in a brisk, extended techno surge. metal and dancing are the last things you expect at a sigur rós gig; both suit them. they should keep it up."
new ep with every ticket
we are pleased to announce that tickets to our upcoming north american 2013 spring tour will get you more than just entry to the show! every ticket purchased will include a digital copy of a three-track ep, containing new and unreleased music, made available to ticket holders on march 22nd, 2013

boy did they go with the cookie cutter venues this time around. It makes sense; but I was hoping for something similar to the Jonsi tour in terms of venue selection.
Oh well

I'm trying not to be too bummed about the AZ/coach conflict since I saw the kickass show at OSL and I will hopefully be seeing them at Coachella. This is great news!

I was already hoping to do Coachella Weekend 1 followed by a drive up the coast to San Fran this year (I've never been north of LA/Indio on the west coast). The San Fran Sigur Ros gig makes this even more desirable. Obviously that's a large venue, but otherwise how is it, and how well do you all think it will work for this show? Just curious how much of a priority I should be making this. Thanks!
