    Default 80/35 Music Festival

As if anyone gives a shit, but for any Midwesterners, this isn't too bad. I'm definitely going to go, presale tomorrow morning at 11 am on iowatix.com. Only $40 for a 2-day pass with the presale, or $50 after May 1st. The festival is July 4th and 5th in Des Moines. Noteworthy bands:

    The Flaming Lips (July 4th)
    The Roots (July 5th)
    Girl Talk (July 4th)
    Drive-By Truckers (July 5th)
Yonder Mountain String Band (July 5th)

How can you lose with The Flaming Lips on the 4th of July? Never thought I'd say this, but nice work, Iowa.

The Flaming Lips on Independence Day sounds awesome, and to top it off, the Roots following them after.

Yeah, I'm genuinely excited about this little fest. They're supposed to add a few more nationally renowned acts later too. And STP had announced a show in Des Moines on the night of July 5th, but it's mysteriously absent from their tour website now... Anyway, I just got my presale ticket for both days, total came to only $46.40. That's a win in my book for the Lips on the 4th of July!

might want to mention the locations while you're at it... it's in Indiana.

I don't know why Indiana just got mentioned. This is taking place in Des Moines, which is in Iowa. It's the state capital, in fact. Didn't figure I would have needed to clarify.

Also, there is an announcement coming on May 13th announcing some more bands. Jakob Dylan and Andrew Bird are among some bands being added.

there goes that vein in my neck threatening to pop again, Flips and Roots are good enough, i'm not expecting Mr.Hansen to grace Des Moines with his awesomeness

p.s.- FINALLY got the deluxe 2 cd Odelay, while its my least favorite Beck album, the second disk of b-sides are brutally good, i'm convinved he was hitting rocks when he made some of these

edit: The Flips and Beck ARE friends though....

I must say I do love Odelay, but part of that is my love affair with "Jack-Ass" and "The New Pollution." I don't expect these adds to be real big, so if we got somebody I was already a pretty big fan of, I'd be very surprised. Maybe Sean Penn, though...

So...80/35 added Black Francis today. It's so cool thinking I get to see both Frank Black and Kim Deal in the same year.

I went to 4th of july on lake okaboge or however you spell, with my old rooomate. great, time
Then I will hold you down and spit her percolations all over you until you're as greasy as the day she regrets pushing your big fat ass out her big fat cunt.

People are genuinely nice to each other here, it's shocking to a lot of people who have had years of cynical city living. And yeah, Lake Okoboji is definitely a 4th of July hot spot. However, this year it will be topped by Wayne Coyne and crew

Here's the schedule/map, recently released. I'm not sure how long bands are allowed to play but it's tantalizing to think about a 2 hour Flips set.

2 hours is barely enough time for them to scratch the surface

I wish they'd give an idea of when the last band of the day has to be done. I would guess relatively early since this all takes place in town (noise curfew similar to Lolla?) but since it's the 4th, I hope nothing applies. Flips from 9 pm until sunrise!
