i dont think bloc party could have seriously lived up to silent alarm which i personally think is one of the best albums since 2000.

with that being said, their new album is still really good.

its like interpol. turn off the bright lights is one of the best albums, and at first antics sucked compared to their first, but i have learned to not compare the two, and its grown on me... maybe the same thing can happen with bloc party.

most of these records aren't even out yet......

explosions..., lcd soundsystem, air, arcade fire, ted leo, RJD2, bloc party (in the states). people wonder why record stores keep closing.

the best record i've heard this year is fujiya and miyagi - transparent things. out of nowhere. never heard the band before but this record is really good.

Yeah, the Fujiya Miyagi album is awesome. It's last year however (maybe the US release is 2007? not sure). Very Can/Neu.

I agree, the bloc party album is lame (granted I didn't care too much for the first one).

NEON BIBLE!!!!! by a very large margin

    Fujiya & Miyagi is great
    Shins was damn good
    CYHSY is pretty good
    Silversun Pickups is good

Bloc Party is a serious disappointment for me because of my love for Silent Alarm but bwonger was right with the Interpol statement. nice call

I agree that it is obvious why record stores are doing bad and all that. But there are some people (like myself) who download the album and end up buying it when it is released. The fact that you can download albums is essential in finding a good album. Too many times did I buy an album where it sucked. Now, I use this method and I never had a bad album.

Jarvis was a 2006 release, and that's when it topped my list.

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (great so far, but not as much as Funeral)
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? (pretty good)
    Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity (ditto)
Air - Ppcket Symphony (good, but a bit dull in parts)
Do Make Say Think - You, You're A History In Rust (good after just one listen)
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (good, not really my thing)
Explosions in the Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone (lovely as always)

    This is the correct answer.

Deerhunter - Cyrptograms is also one badass album.

funny-i remember everyone praising the new bloc party when it first leaked, saying how much better it was than silent alarm. now everyone hates it.

Leaks are good, because if I'm still listening to an album a few months later, then it has to be good, and worth buying. I'm sure we are all tired of impulse purchases and buying crap that got old fast, or was never that good to begin with.
