JClem, I've lived here now for almost three years, there's been like three earthquakes and I've never noticed them yet. They're pussy shit.

the northridge quake years ago made me never want to live on the ground floor of any building. that was some crazy shit, we drove up to the valley to visit friends a couple months after and saw the 3 story apartment building that collapsed onto the ground floor. also saw the parking garages at the mall where the concrete supports were bent in a boomerang shape. i still remember where i was that night, it was sophomore year of high school and i was at my friends house at like 3am here in newport, we had all had a 6 pack of dr. pepper and were fucking wired, he was taking a piss right when the quake hit and ended up pissing all over the toilet seat.

In '89 my dad and i were up in oakland for the world series, i begged him to stay for one more game, but he said we needed to come back so i could go to school, thought he was such a dick! then the next day the big one hit...we probably would have been on that double level freeway at the time, too...didn't think my dad was such a dick anymore.

All we get in my part of Alberta are chinooks (warm air currents) they give us headaches. The northern part (terrible dirty Edmonton) gets Tornados sometimes.

I'm pretty sure those pussy quakes would have me diving under a table lol

I can remember both the 89 and 2000 quakes....2000 was much more violent, at least locally...obviously 89 was a much larger scale.

One of my first real memories is being pushed out of the park in a stroller by my grandma when the '89 earthquake hit. I don't remember the actual shaking, but I remember her talking to all her neighbors, who came outside. That's my story.

    my L.A 1987 earthquake story...

i was 3. and in preschool...

and i bit some kid named George after he threw a ball at me cause i kept saying "georgie porgie pudding pie"

then Teacher Debbie locked me in the closet for being bad...

    the earthquake hit...

everything on the shelves began falling off...

the students along with the teacher went outside...

i stayed in the closet... (make all the out of the closet jokes you want)

i was in there for three hours, which is when my mom came to pick me up...

two weeks after this my mom was driving down the street and Teacher Debbie was walking across and i jumped over to the drivers side and swerved my moms car and almost hit teacher debbie with my moms 78 beetle...

    i was so close...

    damn you teacher debbie....

    damn you...

87 quake I remember for sure, I was at the babysitters waiting to be picked up since it was a half day at school, I just remember the birds going crazy and running for the door way. Northridge quake happend on MLK so I was home asleep then it just rocked everything.

What steve just posted wouldnt be felt up here in the valley considering its by the coast so its effect on anything is minimal.

there hasn't been a real quake around here for at least 5 years or so if I can recall correctly......but once they get in the 6.0-7.0 range, they are no longer pussy shit....especially when they wake you up in the middle of the night

I have lived in California my entire life and never once felt an earthquake. I think it's funny how people who don't live in California would ever consider that we would actually worry about earthquakes.

we've forgotten about them, and will someday be reminded with some insanely huge quake......until then, fuck 'em!

I was in Kansas during a tornado once, and it was def a lot scarier than any earthquake I've experienced

I have a friend whose wife fears that California will fall into the ocean due to an earthquake. I don't think I've ever given it that much thought.

I guess I am the same way with tornados. I would never want to live in tornado alley, fuck that.

For the '87 quake, I was in my high school locker room. Now that is one fucking noisy place to be during a quake. Scared the shit out of us.

I felt the Northridge quake in Vegas. I was sleeping on my couch and a picture fell off the wall and hit me in the chest. I hung it back up and went back to sleep.

Ever since I moved up here from San Diego and asked about that stretch of green acrossed those hills behind Indio, I've tried to forget about earthquakes. Unfortunately, that stretch is the San Andreas Fault Line, just looming in the near distance and ready to rock my world. I can handle a small quake everyday if it relieved the pressure that would mellow out the rock and roll of a big one!

I've lived in the Bay Area my whole life and the '89 quake was the only one that kinda made me nervous. Of all the natural disasters, I'd take an earthquake over all of 'em.
Earthquake: my stuff is in one place, but I may have to dig it out.
    Tornado: where's my stuff?
Flood: assuming it didn't float away, my stuff's all wet.
    Hurricane: where's my wet stuff?
    Fire: toast.

Well, that's one way to look at it, I guess... I, myself would be more worried about my ass than my stuff though...
