so far, boourns and prettyragdoll have expressed (heh) interest in my idea of a pre-party train breakfast at denny's right near downtown union (like seriously a two minute walk)

let's get one last serious heart-threatening carbo/protein binge in before we head out to the campgrounds- where the breakfast sandwich is the best item all day, the pizza looks like runoff from a rendering plant slathered on matzah, and the best option is to live on water and vitamins.

I'll post my cell number on here the week before, and anyone who's undecided can get to LA union at 9, check in their bags, realize they've got hours to kill, THEN realize they need to kiss civilization goodbye properly, and come to denny's to eat their body weight in pancakes, waffles, grits, and every pig meat preparation known to man.
not to mention the ice cream sized scoop of butter that you get on your waffles/pancakes >.<

as a canadian, I'd never known this joy until eating at that very denny's.

There was a shootout at my hometown Denny's a year ago, and it was closed for quite a while so they could remodel and get rid of all the blood spray. It was pretty horrible.

my reason for wanting to do this is as follows:

last year, I hitchhiked back from the festival to LAX, leaving indio at around 3 or 4 AM, and the took public trans back to downtown union, where I sat for ten minutes to gather my senses, and then walked to denny's, where myself and my two travelling buddies ate a gigantic, greasy, fantastically american breakfast at the sun rose deep orange over los angeles, on the first morning after the greatest three days of my life.

I can't think of anything better to get myself fired up for the journey out to coachella than rekindling that feeling of immense accomplishment, that unforgettable deep breath in as the sun came up, and realizing in a fractal image on a breakfast plate, the glorious excess of the coachella festival:
every food group, and a thousand flavors, both real and artifical, prepared for you and set in front of you to be taken in at your leisure- more than you could ever finish, more than you ever should, all at once both fantastic, surreal, overwhelming, a little bit nauseating, and immeasurably satisfying.

Actually skid row isn't AS bad as it was. Still bad, but now you can drive down the street with the windows up and not pass out from the smell that still manages to get in your car.

I wouldn't wanna go to that denny's at like midnight, but at 6/7 AM it was pretty much empty, and pretty clean.

I meant like, sushi that has been sitting on my desk for 6 hours, or the sandwich that I started to make last night when drinking but left on the counter overnight. I just can't imagine what is in Denny's that is so toxic.

okay. so I think the plan for this denny's shindig is as follows:
meet at union at nine to be some of the first to check in
after we've all checked our bags, we can (luggage free) walk over to the denny's. it's pretty much across the frickin' street. then we have until 1:30 before the train leaves, so more like noon to get back to the station.
if there's time between denny's and the train, I highly recommend checking out (I think this is the name) sepulveda blvd, also right across the street from the station. awesome little mexican boulevard full of little kiosks and restaurants, leading up to this beautiful old spanish colonial church.
