ARCADE FIRE & APHEX TWIN FOR COACHELLA 2011
save me a spot, im on the coachella express train
Eh, kinda a tricky subject at the moment. I only actually got into making tracks hands-on a month or so ago, but for about a year I've been kinda co-writing shit with a buddy of mine who has a deal with Nervous Records but they're only particularly interested in relatively standard house/techno. It's good stuff for what it is and it makes him money, but it's not reflective of anything I would put time and effort into myself. So far I've managed to actually derail him long enough to make one track to fit more with the theme of "voodoo music," and another track that half fits with that theme. Luckily, I've found that we can make live sets that incorporate his normalish house stuff into the darker overtone of the voodoo stuff and some of our older experiments from our Squarepusher/Tech Itch idolization phase, and thus end up with sets that go from creepy voodoo tribal to tribal house to booty-shaking house to evil dnb and back to booty-shaking.
As far as stuff I actually make completely on my own, I haven't been working on anything since the last couple tracks because of a pressing need to finish my script instead of fucking around with Ableton.
yea, the evil dnb style is huge here since gein(the dnb trio not the killer) is from milwaukee. we have brought out tech itch, dylan, evol intent alot because of them. i play softer then that ala :fartooloud,noisia,ed209: but i will be bringing some hard dnb out 2 just to split some heads.
Honestly, my instincts when I sit down to make something really tear me in two directions. On one hand--I really do legitimately fucking LOVE disco. And Daft Punk was about the most fun set I've ever seen despite being entirely generated from songs I didn't really like until they were put in that set.
But there's this other part of me that just still insists what I really want to do is play with people's emotions and jam fucking evil polyrhythms down their throat until they don't know what their drugs are doing to them anymore. That part that's like, "Oh what, we found an audio recording of Aleister Crowley performing a demonic incantation? FUCKING A IT'S THE VOCAL."
So, so torn...
