We're not going to agree on this. Sunshine is 1/3 shitty, but the first two thirds of it are outstanding.

Sunshine is an excellent Danny Boyle movie, but being a Danny Boyle movie means he's going to use his Danny Boyle official set of circumstances that cause the lead dude to lose his shit and disconnect from his current reality. Knowing that going in to any Danny Boyle movie kind of helps to swallow what happens as the plot develops.

And I love me some Danny Boyle.

Well, I definitely agree with that but making 2/3 of a good movie doesn't usually cut it in my book. And that final third is particularly bad.

Or it completely turned into Event Horizon. I still really like Sunshine though, ending and all.

I actually prefer Event Horizon to Sunshine. That movie scared the shit out of me when I first saw it.

I think Devil's Rejects is the much better film. But I love those movies. They are my favorite "tune in, turn off" movies. The ending to Devil's Rejects has top three usage of audio and video with Fight Club being number one of course.

    New Wes Anderson trailer:

Very typical Anderson but still really looking forward to it. Keitel looks nuts.

Great trailer! I wonder how much of the film will be in widescreen, I only counted 3 quick widescreen shots.

Criterion announced their January titles... Pretty surprised about "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World."

Just surprised because I didn't see that title coming from them, but it's good news. Read about the extras, and it sounds like quite a nice package.

I wasn't too surprised about the other titles (especially Theif, but that's due to some inside info)...

Still waiting for them to do Eraserhead (as hinted at in their yearly title-hint picture), though...

Just because I have inside info doesn't mean I share it. I keep that stuff under my hat for a number of reasons.

That Throne of Blood though does sound pretty great. Nothing like (SPOILER) dying under a hail of arrows in HD.

It's Ryan Gosling - many a lady would tolerate a tsunami of crazy to get with that guy.

Really stoked for the Criterion edition of Thief. I remember watching that movie b/c I was reading a screenwriting book and it was brought up as an example of an excellent screenplay.

Also, I work for a book company, and occasionally there will be employee sales where they'll try to sell off inventory nobody wants. They had a bunch of DVD's there. I don't know how this ended up in there, but I got a sealed copy of the Criterion edition of Bicycle Thieves for $1.

Had a somewhat similar experience, although replace "Bicycle Thieves" with "Hard Boiled." It wasn't sealed, though.

Let just say some dumb college student needed the cash and didn't realize what he was trading in, or that the store I was employed by at the time wouldn't cash out anything close to what it was worth. $5 later, it was mine, all mine.

The downside is that it was made prior to 16x9 being the standard tv screen size, so the OOP Criterion edition is only a 4x3 widescreen release. Yet somehow, they still manage to have a better transfer than the Fox Lorber or Weinstien Company releases.

I actually found a used copy of that Criterion Hard Boiled as well in a music/movies/games shop years ago, it was like $8 or $10. I checked, and I'm fairly certain it's not a bootleg.

FTR, I'm not like a collector of Criterion DVD's. I'd say I have around 30 - 40 in my collection.
