Everyone has been comparing it to Battle Royale but it had way more in common with The Apple.
I did however really like Jennifer Lawrence in it.

I don't think I would read that ending from the film at all. Our perspective of the planet does *seem* to be a personalization for Kris, but only because that is the reflection Solaris is generating at that moment. A disconnect exists that is similar to the book though, demonstrated strongest by Solaris's inability to make sense of kris's perceptions that it is drawing from. I think Tarkovsky definitely is trying to confront something different than Lem, but I don't think the goal was really to make Solaris itself more human... but rather the goal was to show something distinctly human that Solaris couldn't comprehend.

Totally. I don't think I was really saying what I felt. I didn't see it as Solaris being meant for Kris, or as Tarkovsky's goal being to make Solaris more human. When I say that he made his Solaris more human, I meant it more in that it was closer to Kris' character than the book was, but not that the planet or the concept of "alien" was more human. I just think that in looking at Kris more closely, Tarkovsky gives more Human for us to relate to. I think it helps us experience the disconnect more... It was too much for me to say that the story is ultimately about Kris, because it's ultimately not very different from Lem's book - at least in showing the Human vs. Alien, either from one angle or the other.

It felt like it went fast for me, despite being 2 hours and 45 minutes. I think it's more of an atmospheric/mood experience than most sci-fi movies that I've seen (which I haven't really seen many, other than some of the real popular stuff). I was also excited about remembering things from the book.

So was it a direct ripoff of Battle Royale though? I mean in most cases I wouldnt hesitate a second to watch 8th graders shooting each others heads off, but I feel guilty about supporting something that (by the sounds of it) is such a direct ripoff of a movie I love so dearly

I've said this many times before and lost credibility on all of them, but Freddy Got Fingered made me laugh harder than any movie I've ever seen.

Made is really underrated and totally superior to Swingers.
The story is what it is, but its really all about those two guys' interaction.
I also like how the dialogue suggests a lot of back story between the two without ever really underlining much of it.

And Stepbrothers (to me) is the funniest film of its kind since Caddyshack.

As a big fan of the earlier film, the new trailer kind of makes it show that its at least following the original story line. Could be a bad thing though, it looks as if alot of the fight scenes are almost exactly the same...big question is-Colin Farell>Arnold?
