Crap. My week next week just got booked up...family in town, and some business. Enjoy the flick, if you guys go! I'll have to wait until the following week.

I'm all booked until Monday, the 12th and Tuesday the 13th.

I remember taking geology. It was pretty painful...

This attempt to see The Good German has become a fairly entertaining soap opera.

Has anyone seen the preview for Julie Taymor's newest film yet?? I've heard nothing about it till now and just watched the preview. It's a musical w/ music by The Beatles and it's called "Across The Universe". Unfortunately it doesn't get released until September but it looks amazing.

I love Taymor's work. TITUS & FRIDA are stunningly beautiful films. This could be her best yet. I, for one, can not wait for this spectacle. Just thought I'd share. Check out the trailer: http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplayli...tw=480&qth=300

other than that I have no new reviews to share at the moment as I haven't been to the theater in a while. If you're loking to rent a good flick though, go pick up a copy of The Descent. This is the best horror film I've seen in a looong time. Edge of your seat, bloody mayhem at it's finest.

That looks out-fucking-STANDING. I will absolutely be seeing that.

I have never seen "Titus" or "Frida", either; the latter, in particular, is one I always wanted to catch, but just never did.

frida wasn't very good. but that's probably just because salma hayek is horrible and painful as an "actress".

the trailer for across the universe looks interesting, i'd see it. that across the universe cover at the end sounds a lil obnoxious though.

I'm much more of a fan of TITUS. I'd reccomend watching them both, but I wasn't the biggest fan of FRIDA when i first saw it. It's a beautiful film that I'd give another chance, but a little slow. TITUS is awesome though! If only for the cinematography.

I completely disagree with this. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance so obviously I'm not alone in this assesment. The movie was also critically acclaimed upon it's release.

I finally saw "Pan's Labyrinth" on Saturday. This will join "Babel" and "The Fountain" as movies I've seen recently that I'll immediately purchase when they're released on DVD.

I also saw "Last King Of Scotland" within the last week, but that'll fall into the rental category if I watch it again. Very good movie, and great performance by Forest Whitaker, but not something I feel is a must-own.

Next Saturday, I'll catch "Volver" and that should catch me up (at least briefly) on movies I want to see in the theater.

I saw Hard Candy last night. That is one fucked up movie, but very well-acted.

I disagree, aside from the 15-30 minutes in the film, which was a result of poor editing. It was a daring film that took sharp and precise jabs. I went to see it opening weekend, with a surprisingly crowded theater.

Yeah, "Zodiac" should be AWESOME. David Fincher's one of the best visual artists in film, and this three-hour crime epic looks like it has the makings of a classic.

Ha, I saw Pan's Labyrinth on Saturday too...as did Adam. I dug it. Pot's criticism about the grapes doesn't make sense to me. I think the director very consciously made her actions seem irrational.

*shrugs* to each their own. but the 3-6 mafia were also nominated for an academy (and won), that doesn't mean i have to like it

i didn't really pay attention to the cinematography though, and maybe i should have. i'll have to check out titus sometime too.

I just watched L'Enfant this morning, and that movie was really good, really sad.

    *SPOILERS*

I felt bad for the girl: she should have known how scuzzy her boyfriend was--I mean, he sublet her flat out without her permission and randomly sold her stuff for money, and she trusted him with her baby? Sad. I was struck by how young and clueless this poor couple was, but they seemed to genuinely love each other.

Yeah, that was a masterpiece and then some. Brilliantly written, acted, and directed.....punishingly emotional without even a hint of artifice (like, not even so much as a musical score).

It's nice to have a movie that makes a social commentary without beating you over the head with it.
