Noah is garbage. It's a garbage film with garbage writing.

Saw Nymphomaniac last night and really liked it. Like tallguy said before I'm also not too fond of how they split the movie into two parts because the first part doesn't really feel like it can stand on its own. So thats annoying, but other then that the movie is actually really good so far. The acting is good, the dialogue is actually really entertaining. It's also great seeing a film that has so much sex but in a way that isn't really necessarily sexual at all. It simply serves the purpose of the story. Another random thing though is I've always been really bugged by Von Trier's constant moving/zooming in and out camera but I think its actually works out well with this film for some reason. I'll definitely be back next week for part II.

Yeah, it's really fucking bad. I wrote a little on Letterboxd, and since I pretty much dive right into spoilers, I'm just going to post the link rather than c+p.

I finally got around to The Counselor tonight. The dialogue definitely makes it obvious to have been written by a novelist, but it's a criminally overlooked film. It's a thriller that is enough unlike other thrillers that it's really worth everybody's time.

I realize I'm only about a month late on this, but I went to go see The Grand Budapest Hotel this past weekend, and generally found it lovely. All of the painted set miniatures and candy-colored architecture was charming, as were the montages of M. Gustave's many lady friends and (especially) the Society of the Crossed Keys.

However, in some ways, I thought Anderson went to a place a little darker than normal with TGBH: racial profiling at border crossings, a military occupation evocative of Nazi history, and more than one bloody severed body part turned gag. And I'm not really sure how I feel about that. I'm all for Anderson using his trademark whimsy to touch on themes of family drama, romance, or personal discovery. I'm not sure if I'm as comfortable with him coating a referenced history of political oppression in a dusting of pastel pink powdered sugar.

Four Lions is one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile. Leave it to the British to make a film about suicide bombers that is both side-splitting and on point in more than one way. Expiring in a few days on Netflix if you haven't seen it.

Sssssooooo I watched The Three Colors Trilogy again while I'm on spring break and it's still the best shit ever if you had forgotten. Red may be a top 10 film for me, I love it so.

Also, I was never over the moon with White but after another watch and checking out some of supplements on the Criterion discs I'm beginning to realize its perhaps the most nuanced of the three and the biggest reflection of Kieślowski himself.

Just did a Gremlins/Gremlins 2 double feature. I fucking love these movies. The second might be the best puppet/physical effects movie ever made. Rick Baker did work in that movie that blows away a lot of things that even Henson did, and it's a pretty under appreciated film except for us wackos.

Gremlins 2 is one of the greatest sequels ever filmed.

Noah is a horrendous piece of shit. Read a fucking bible or redbox it.

I can't believe the guys behind You, Me & Dupree directed on of the best American action movies I've seen in decades. The Winter Soldier is simply awesome.

Under the Skin is an absolute fucking masterpiece. Good god. It'll take a hell of a lot for it to not end up being the best film of 2014.
