No. What I mean is, mozabilly kept making a new thread for every movie related topic. I said to him in one of them "there is a movie corner where you can discuss all these things". I was not being malicious about it, just pointing out that it can all be done in one place and we don't need to clutter the board with unnecessary threads. You stepped in and said this thread sucks, because it has "rules". "Go play in yours, because nobody cares". A big deal? No. Reason enough for me to not like you? Yes.

And that's on top of you trying to admonish Jennie for a story she told. This was back in the old days. Again, none of this is monumental. But it's enough to put you on the shit list.

So I watched this movie "Mrs Brown" on the plane yesterday. and the whole time I'm watching it I'm thinking that John Brown is being played by John Cleese. I mean, I was sure of it. Then the credits roll and it's Billy Connolly and I'm like wtf.

Welcome, mob roulette. Here are my feelings about those films:

"Control" should be terrific; Anton Corbijn has done some great photography, so hopefully that translates to a movie that's visually interesting.

"The Darjeeling Limited" sounds like it could be Wes Anderson's best film yet. I mean, obviously it'll have to be outstanding to reach that status, but I'm definitely of the opinion that Wes' work has not fallen off at all (the claims that "The Life Aquatic" was some kind of failure are mystifying, to say the least), and the India element seems to be something that's always piqued his curiosity. Let me just say that I'm thrilled he's doing this right now instead of the animated "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" movie.

"American Gangster" will probably be worth seeing. Ridley Scott's stuff is usually good, and Denzel Washington as a 70's crime lord can't possibly be less than interesting.

And I absolutely think "Southland Tales" will be out sometime this year, in theaters. I've heard forever that it would be April, but if so, it's about time we get a trailer and a confirmation.

There's no way it goes straight to DVD. It won't make nearly enough to offset the production costs. I don't remember how much Sony acquired it for - it was financed originally by Universal, I believe - but I can't imagine that putting it out on DVD first would possibly be beneficial.

You'll have to forgive me for not having heard of the others on your list - please educate us all!

synecdoche, new york is the new charlie kaufman whereby the director (in the film) builds a set of the entire city inside a warehouse. kaufman is a genius. mister lonely is the new harmony korine that has samantha morton playing marilyn monroe and werner herzog (!) playing himself. tenderness is an adptation of a robert cormier novel. all three sound juicy as all hell just based on what i've read.

i brought up southland on dvd because i know that's where darko made all of its money.

Michael Haneke (Cache) is remaking his 97 film Funny Games with American actors. I personally find it to be a retarded proposition but it's got Naomi Watts and Tim Roth, so hey.

Hasn't hit here yet, Ivy. Think it is still just in LA, NY, and Toronto. Hopefully, it will get a full release soon. Been wanting to see this since the trailer came out. I love film noir! And, Cate Blanchett.

The Good German starts tomorrow at Valley Art.

I liked "The Good German" a lot. I didn't understand it, but I liked it. I think I heard that the wide release would be in late January, but clearly that is not the case. I have no idea when or if "Inland Empire" will ever extend....well...inland.

mob roulette - Thaaaat's right. "Synedoche, New York", I have heard of before. Yeah, I'm totally putting that on my must-see list. And I didn't know Harmony Korine was making a new movie! That's a great tip, keep up the good work!

Speaking of Herzog, his new film "Rescue Dawn" comes out in April.

For me, the number one movie on my radar this year is "There Will Be Blood". PTA's been out of action for quite some time, and now he's coming back with a period epic about the oil industry without any of his usual company of actors. Daniel Day-Lewis is the lead, though, so I don't see how this will be anything but excellent.

Park Chan-wook and Lars von Trier are both releasing comedies this year, which I find both intriguing and odd. I've never seen "Idiotern", so I'm used to von Trier films being wrenching; I'd be interested to see what his brilliantly sick mind thinks is funny. And it's safe to say that Park has never done anything that can be considered a comedy. Plus, Wong Kar-Wai has his first English film coming out - "My Blueberry Nights", which I think stars Maggie Gyllenhaal.

"Black Snake Moan" and "Zodiac" and "Sunshine" (new Danny Boyle) should ensure that Spring 2007 will be far better than the average first-quarter of a film year, and I've also heard great things about Adam Sandler's dramatic turn in "Reign Over Me", although the trailer looks like ass. David Gordon Green had a new film play Sundance - "Snow Angels" - that will hopefully come out sometime soon.

It's shaping up to be a pretty great year.

Dedication is the one that really looks interesting to me though. Maybe it's the soundtrack...Deerhoof, Cat Power, Fischerspooner, etc.

Also, Youth Without Youth is that new Francis Ford Coppola that he's keeping like a secret. Lots of good whispers allegedly coming from the cast and crew though.
