Bored in a hotel room tonight, I watched Super Fly on Netflix. Classic soundtrack, obviously. Entertaining flick, but definitely style over substance.

Just watched Death Wish and what a fun film with cameos from young future jazz guys. Bronson's psychosis is admirable, each death he delivers with a cold mother fuckin' stare. I enjoyed it so much I had to get into the second. Bronson is far more physical in the 2nd one, just something to think about if you Netflix marathon it.

Almost finished with Death Wish 2, and I need to know from any of you old of enough to remember its theatre release: How was it received? I mean, this movie is fucked up. Charles Bronson is the ultimate badass.

I also watched Southland Tales today, what a fucking a failure on the parts of the casting, the writing, and well..just fucking everything. OK, so maybe with "Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Sean William Scott.." as the two names I saw, I should have not even gone through with it. Then it starts, I'm looking at Magic cards, and then I hear a familiar voice, I can't pin it. Then I look at the screen. Justin Timberlake.

This movie was over already. I just let the trainwreck keep going. So many cameos of TV actors in a film that had promise in the scenario of the world before it introduced the characters; including the narrator, Timberlake. After looking at Richard Kelly's IMDB I feel like this is another one of his many films that had some great potential, but he rushed it out the door. It's unfortunate how money can just slop up something great.

    **Death Wish 2 LIVE UPDATE
The writers just threw in PCP use. Action film folks who enjoy senseless violence: Watch this.

I really hope they decide not to remake Death Wish series. Those first 2 death wishes were fucking fantastic.

Yes, Death Wish is awesome. The last couple are ridculous mockeries of the first two though.

And Southland Tales is one of the worst movies ever made. it's such a crazy bundle of WTF all the way through. And none of that has to do with The Rock or Sean William Scott, both of whom I actually like quite a bit. That movie tested my patience quite a bit.

Southland Tales is a mess, but it's an entertaining mess. I found myself laughing at certain scenes towards the end of how ridiculous they were (or maybe it was the dialogue, I can't remember).
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I don't see Southland Tales as a failure. It is very high on my list of favorite films. It is sprawling and ridiculous but I count these as successes.

And it deals with realities of 21st Century America like few other films.

Some may be turned off by the slowish pace, the mystical sci-fi elements, the vulgarity ("Cockchuggers 2: Cock Chuggin'") but I find that all great. And I love the music, including Justin Timberlake Lip-Syncs The Killers so, yeah.

I will note that the original/Cannes cut IS a mess and that I am not sure I would have loved the film as much if that was what I was going by.

    Agreed.

All of Xanman's photos on the other hand....

Personally I think if you were to meet/know anyone famous, the last thing you want is a shitty picture with them looking annoyed. I'd rather have a legitimate conversation that doesn't have to revolve around the subject of me praising their work.

Whatever the fuck it was, I just stared at the screen while wondering...what the fuck were they thinking when they made this? 2 hours 24 minutes long, caricatures instead of characters, dialog that was just clearly thrown out the window in the writing process.

How much of that was spent on coke and hookers? (Or Weed/fastfood)
