Yeah. Apparently Herzog watched Gummo and became convinced Korine was some kind of genius when he saw the bacon taped to the wall in the bath scene. I'm not totally inclined to disagree. I really need to re-watch Julien some time soon, it's been ages and I've forgotten a lot of it.

Speaking of re-viewing movies, I watched Donnie Darko for the first time in at least five years, probably significantly more. I like it so much more than I remembered. I feel like a dork because it got me more emotional than anything in my depression trilogy from yesterday. I'm pretty sure I'm developing emotionally in reverse at this point.

Although it's not a movie technically, I'm about to give Twin Peaks another go and see if I can make it through that damned second season already.

Criterion releasing The Game in September. Hell yes.

I remember liking Eating Raoul, but I've only seen it once.

We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I was laughing so much during his scenes. Between the Q&A in person at AFI Fest in '10 and his Colbert interview, I've decided the guy is absolutely insane, so even hearing the sound of his voice makes me starting busting up at this point.

Eating Raoul is one of my favorite dark comedies, dated though it may be. It's hard to go wrong with Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov.

And I'm assuming you haven't seen Burden Of Dreams, Chris.

I also love Eating Raoul. And it looks like his shorts "Secret Cinema" and "Naughty Nurses" are on the criterion release too! I've been trying to get a hold of those for a while.
Might need to get this release.

It's masterfully crafted, and Tilda Swinton's performance is brilliant. i don't think I'll have any desire to watch it again any time soon though. Sometimes I forget that movies can have this kind of emotional effect on me.
So now that I'm home, I D/L'ed this and watched. It was very good!

The bond (or lack of a bond) between the mother and child was very interesting. My bf and I had strong emotional responses to the movie but for different reasons. The movie overlapped with experiences during my week spent babysitting my sisters kids. Their ages were 2, 3 and 4. I do not have any children of my own and I've never been exposed to little ones before last week. The oldest is a boy who has a terrible temper his mother also has a very bad temper. (Quote from movie: I wonder where he got it from?)

I really like movies that force me to reflect about the kind of person I am and choose to be.

Apparently the book is extremely disturbing as well. I'm probably going to check that out soon. Thanks for suggestion Drinkey.

Same here. I checked to make sure they were ending up on there, and am very pleased to see that it is so. Although it will be anti-climactic to see them after they've been on my list for like 10 years.

Ah, one of my favorites! it does well on repeat viewing too, there's a lot of bizarre shit to absorb. Whenever i watch it I wonder why the fuck Peter Weller didn't have a bigger creep, he's so great in that! The asshole speech is one of the bits that was taken verbatim from the book (Frank Zappa actually used to perform it on stage as a monologue). it's a very strange adaptation in that it ties in a several things from other Burroughs books and from his biography and melded all these with the Naked Lunch book. He's pretty much an unadaptable writer, but Cronenberg did as good of a job as anyone could possibly do in brings his complete lunacy to fruition.

Guys, this is a huge fucking day. Redland - the film that topped my Best of 2011 list - is suddenly getting a DVD and VOD release through IndiePix! I will be buying the FUCK out of this tomorrow.

Seriously. ANYONE who reads this thread - if you do me one goddamn favor for the next five years, at least spring for the VOD. I've got to know whether or not I'm out of my mind on this movie, considering that I don't think anyone else who's written about it likes it as much as I do.

Agreed. Regardless of my impressions later, the cinematography of the opening scene left me satisfied from the git-go. Must go to Iceland soon!
