Immortals and Coraline were both pretty spectacular in 3D as well.

EDIT: just remembered some others...Beowulf, the terrible movie it is, looked incredible in IMAX 3D. Transformers 3 also used 3D extremely well.

The 3D in Coraline was breathtaking. Depth of field was astounding. That's the only time I thought it worth the trouble taken. Too bad Dakota Fanning's and Teri Hatcher's voices were so grating they basically ruined the film for me. If only they'd cast other actors...

Wanted to watch all the Alien movies before Prometheus for the hell of it and wow no one ever told me how good Aliens is, I'd only seen the first one. Instant favorite, that's how a sci-fi movie is done.

WOW to watch Aliens for the first time! It's the perfect action film. Did you see the theatrical cut or the extended version? The extended one is even better, i barely even watch the theatrical one any more, i remember being so blown when i finally got to see the longer cut.

Saw Moonrise Kingdom last night. I thought it was good, but not great. It was well done and definitely Wes Anderson, but I just didn't get the same feelings for the movie that were engendered by Royals, Rushmore and to some extent Aquatic. Oh well, it's still better than Darjeeling, which I also liked. I'd say Moonrise Kingdom is tied for third with Life Aquatic.

Yes, she was interesting and attractive till her body incinerated. But that had to be one of the worst Bond movies ever and couldn’t make it through till the end.

Anyone for ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ with Dame Judi Dench leading the way? I kind of want to see it.

I meant the question sincerely even though it came out snarky. I'm not really a fan of the series (love Aliens, saw Alien over a decade ago and didn't care for it, slept on the other two) but if anything, it seems like Prometheus would appeal less to those who are.

You are correct. Grandma's just being a contrarian. On its own it's a decent movie but when they crammed it down our throats as an Alien prequel (and it seems clear this was wholly the studio's intention, not Scott's) it is riddled with holes.

But now that I'm becoming more convinced of Scott's intended allegory I'm getting even more annoyed with it.

He really is the best part about the shit movie and then has a ridiculous out of nowhere death.

And the CGI is too funny.

Prometheus has been on my mind a lot this week. And something I realized that was a big part of my apathetic response to it was the characters. In the first two films, I really rooted for Sigourney's character. She was very likeable, and made it easy to be on her side. Prometheus contained absolutely no characters anywhere near as appealing. Noomi Rapace's character was the only one who was even remotely tolerable, but even she was no more than a 6 or 7 out of 10 on the charisma scale.

Maybe the extra 20 to 30 minutes in the directors cut will give us a little more in characters. Also I guess there was supposed to be a big fight scene between Shaw and the Engineer but Ridley didn't find it realistic. It'll be a deleted scene on the dvd.
