Most Underrated Movie

I wanted to make this a poll, but the list I was compiling in my head become more "movies I really like that no one else seems to give a fuck about" but yeaaaah...

I should clarify that by underrated I don't mean not well-received, or not critically acclaimed, I mostly mean a film that is fucking awesome but most people don't appreciate it, because it is too complex/abstract/whatever. I feel like these are the kinds of movies that people who do like them absolutely LOVE, and everyone else is ambivalent, or hates....

may I propose:
Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man


Gus van Sant's My Own Private Idaho


and Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.


Thoughts? ohhh and hopefully suggestions of most excellent movies that I have never heard of...

this film generates an entire spectrum of emotions and had no reason to get panned by critics and Wes fans alike

Life Aquatic is for sure on my top movies list, anything with bill murray, dafoe, wes, seu jorge singing bowie, psychedelic colors, and what I consider marvelous cinematography is top notch in my book.

The scene towards the end with the jaguar shark and staralfur, I almost fucking died it was so epically magical.

there are so many moments that are just very, very funny, and some that are beautifully sad, Murray did a terrific job

this movie is probably on the top of my "underrated list"



seriously guys, if you havent seen it, don't judge it by the poster, the script is deliciously witty and the ensemble cast is knockout, we have tim curry (yay!), christopher lloyd, martin mull, michael mckean, madeline kahn, leslie ann warren, god this movie is so funny

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a masterpiece. There. I said it. I know some of you will agree. I really don't think it should be here though cause It's not that underated like the other two you posted.

On the other hand, years ago when Tom Cruise was totally acceptable and Cameron Crowe did his thing, I think this movie was amazing (and I know everyone is going to say the original is much better, but I happen to like both of them because they are visually so different).

ehh I didnt really prefer abre los ojos, the ending seemed much more contrived to me. and though tom cruise is well tom cruise, he is undeniably an amazing actor. his performance in VS is stellar.

this is one of the funniest moments in cinematic history

What made the movie so special to me was not only it was visually stunning, but the soundtrack is amazing also. Cameron Crowe is the man.

requiem is underrated because people dont like to be made sad, in a similar vain, Candy, its hard to say which movie kills me more...I just watched candy a few weeks ago, and I haven't seen requiem for a year or so..



on a lighter note, SURVIVE STYLE FIVE PLUS!!!!!, I've never met anyone who has seen this movie, but everyone I make watch it loves it. It's brilliant...

ooh run lola run is so good, did you ever see the simpsons where they parody (sp) it, having Lisa in the Franka Potente role, using the same music and everything

between "the 6th sense" and "signs" m. night made this movie which I personally just loved loved loved, the camera work is brilliant, and hell, im a sucker for a twist ending

Again, Run Lola Run is not underrated. It's just not especially well known 'cause it's in fucking German. Gimmick flick, entertaining for one watch.
