Hey folks, i'm a scottish guy coming over for Coachella and i heard that the college kids of San Diego have mad parties in Tijuana. i was wondering how i would go about getting in contact with them to hook up. After Coachella, i'll be in L.A. for a week so i'll be going to all the prime hot spots but as we all know that all the best parties are secret as they are illegal. Anyway get me on Anotherline@hotmail.co.uk

If you're in the 18-20 crowd you can pretty much just walk across the border, jump in a cap and they'll take you to Avenue de la Revolucion (sp?).

Tons of clubs, bars, strip joints and pharmacies. Plus leather goods, switchblades, fireworks, donkey shows, jai alai, plaster Bart Simpsons, woven things, chiclets, etc.

If you want an illegal party I suggest sticking to this side of the border. The jails are nicer.

Rosarito or Ensenada both good. TJ is dirtier, sleazier and people go their because it's closer to the border and you dont' know better and like to hear 'face down, ass up, that's the way we like to f@#!' and other classics. Really the only reason to go to TJ is if your 18, going to school in San Diego and want to be able to drink in clubs and bars but can't in the US yet. Or to see acts like NIN back in the day at Iguana's.

least no one told ya 'ask around for Donkey Show and thank me later.'

Ive been over the border many times and have never had any troubles. Just be cool and dont act like a jackass becuase you think Mexico doesnt have any rules. I would rather be partying on sunset than TJ since it isnt all that cheap. We spent almost 50 dollars on four beers and a tequila shot. Did anyone go to the Ed Banger after party in October? There were some pretty hot blonde hispanics there, i know they were hispanic becuase they didnt know english.

If you go to TJ ask around for a donkey show, thank me latter.

Leo, when i went back before i was 21, There this club, i think saphire, where it was a $13 cover, with an open bar. I don't remember much else. I was told that i puked in a taxi on the way to the border, and one of my other buddies puked in the line to cross the border. Good times.

actually partying in TJ isnt half bad...

well i mean, you can get dollar beers EVERYWHERE and great fucking tacos...

and the best deal on strip clubs EVER! (5 dollar cover, 15 dollar lap dances, 2 dollar beers)

and if youre willing to spare 60 bucks you can get some of the finest looking hookers around...

but the party scene there isnt as great as it used to be...

Popular Tijuana singer found tortured, slain
Last Updated: Thursday, February 21, 2008 | 5:06 PM ET
    CBC News
Another Mexican singer was found tortured and killed last week, authorities in Tijuana revealed on Wednesday.

Jesus Rey David Alfaro Pulido, a popular local performer known as El Gallito or The Little Rooster, and two members of his staff were found dead just south of the border from San Diego, Calif., prosecutors confirmed after rumours arose the bodies were found last week.

Left with the bodies were threatening notes about the execution-style killings.

The 26-year-old Alfaro is the latest victim in a wave of violent murders of Mexican singers, some of whom performed so-called narcocorridos, a genre of ballad that glorifies crime and the drug trade.

Since 2006, when Mexico began ramping up its campaign to stamp out drug trafficking close to the U.S. border, a host of Mexican singers, musicians and their crew have been tortured and killed.

Drug war dampens Tijuana's booming art scene
    Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:19am

TIJUANA (Reuters) - The seediness of this crime-hit border city inspires sculptor Raul Cardenas to make his cutting-edge art. But when stray bullets from a drug gang shootout shattered his studio window, he was forced to move to a safer part of the city.

"Two years ago it was different here, people wanted to come to Tijuana. Now every few days someone is kidnapped," said Cardenas, who makes conceptual sculptures in the sprawling city of factories and shanty-towns just south of San Diego.

Tijuana, a city known since prohibition times as a haven for Americans looking for a tawdry vacation, has gained a reputation as a cultural hotbed since artists began setting up here in the early 1990s and turning the heads of international curators with unique, often political art.

But a recent spike in violence is putting a cramp on the cultural scene as tourists flee and galleries shut doors.

Mexico's drug war is boiling over in Tijuana with over 300 people killed here last year, overwhelming residents accustomed to common crime but not to so much bloodshed.

A consortium of smugglers from the Pacific state of Sinaloa, led by Mexico's most wanted man, Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, is waging war against other cartels. Drug gang killers have dumped severed human heads on streets and scrawled ominous messages on their victims' corpses.

President Felipe Calderon responded to the violence by deploying 25,000 troops around the country in an unprecedented campaign and now traffickers fight daytime gun battles in crowded neighborhoods with the army and police.

Tijuana's bawdy bars and seedy streets where prostitutes lean against open doorways have attracted free-living artists, photographers and musicians from both sides of the border. But the growing drug violence is turning some away.

Authorities believe that gangs are targeting singers associated with their rivals.

Glenna Jennings, a California photographer who collaborates with U.S. and Mexican artists in Tijuana, wanted to open a gallery for performance art in one of the city's most dangerous neighborhoods, "Colonia Libertad."

"The recent violence has had an effect on our plans and things have been 'tabled' for the moment," Jennings said.

She now works in the lively port town of Ensenada an hour south of Tijuana, which along with nearby Rosarito also has a blossoming art scene. But violence is spreading there too.

    CORPSE SNATCHED

One brazen case hit the news last November when a group of heavily-armed men snatched the body of a fellow trafficker from a morgue in Ensenada to thwart a police investigation.

Bad publicity is spooking American visitors, said Rosarito gallery owner Lorena Mancilla. "Tourists in general, but mostly art buyers, have stopped coming," she said.

Cardenas, his new studio now in a residential neighborhood, says everyone in town knows someone who has been snatched and held for ransom as drug smugglers hit by Calderon's crackdown look for new ways to make money. Some victims return without fingers, others never come home.

But Cardenas, like many others, finds inspiration in the cultural mix along the U.S.-Mexico border and doesn't want to leave.

For a recent museum piece, he sewed satellite-positioning systems into the clothes of five people who regularly cross the border and traced their movements back and forth on a series of colorful maps.

One artists' collective called Bulbo has started a discussion group loosely modeled on Alcoholics Anonymous to help people cope with the rough side of life in Tijuana.

Marcos Ramirez, whose studio overlooks the border, is creating an installation at a Texas gallery around video of him machine-gunning a car, a commentary on the violence.

"I make art to balance out all the evil," said Ramirez, who is known in the art world as by his signature "ERRE." "Many people can't handle Tijuana. I'm fascinated by it, but I'm crazy," he said.

been many times and have always gotten back to the USA without any serious damage done.. just try not to get caught doing anything illegal, because the police are very corrupt...and you will be paying loads of money for your freedom, regardless of how petty your crime is...
