Thread: FAITH NO MORE

    Default FAITH NO MORE

That would be amazing. A Mr. Bungle reunion would be amazing as well but that’s not going to happen in this life time. Or if it is Patton won’t be singing in it. I could see a FNM reunion though and if anyone could make it happen these days I think Coachella could arrange it. Patton has joked for years about how many suitcases of money it would take for him to commit to that. The neat thing with the festival shows is that you could also have the various side projects on the bill as well. Imperial Teen, Peeping Tom… hell, just Patton in a lounge tent doing the Loveage album would be a hoot.

Faith No More were waaaay ahead of their time and dominated the European festival shows over a decade ago. A lot of people overlook it, but my favorite era of FNM was the late 90s, fancy suit era of FNM. Check out how Patton just nails their last song, he’s almost channeling Elvis at the end. That’s a very holy and sacred bond, the connection between a lead singer and his drummer. Damn, Faith No More was not just a great band, but Patton was one of the most interesting stage performers ever.

    Yo, Faith No More.

    Think about it, Coachella.

Mike Patton's touring as Crudo w/ Dan the Automator right now. I'd be cool with that being added.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * The Flaming Lips perform The Soft Bulletin - Bimbo's 365 in SF on February 21st
    * Jeff Mangum - Fox Theater in Oakland on April 10th

Five Years of Coachella Glory: 2007 - 2011 (skipping 2012, maybe I'll be back in '13?)

When Faith No More reunite, since it will only be a matter of time. I will be there. It doesn't matter when or where it is, I will be there.
I think getting Faith No More to reunite would be HUGE for Coachella. I would think it would almost be a garunteed sell out. FNM weren't that big in North America, but they were HUGE in Europe and Australia. So a FNM reunion would draw a large international draw. It is a band you normally don't associate with the "indie" coachella crowd, yet they somewhat have the indie stamp of approval. Patton has played twice at Coachella, so Paul Tollet obviously likes him. Peeping Tom were one of my fav performances last year, and from what I heard, Fantomas in 05 were damn good. In short, FNM should play Coachella. 2009 might be too soon, Patton is a busy fucking bee right now, so its not the time. But I can hope for 2010. But realistically, my guess is 2012. Don't ask why, it is just my guess.

Actually, thier first gig is at Sasquatch this year. And am I ever excited! No one even knows what it will sound like. According to Wikipedia, it's "Bizzare R&B." So make of that what you will.

Oh my god... where do I start. Well, besides FNM and Mr. Bungle. His main projects are Fantomas and Tomahawk, which he goes between frequently.
Fantomas features Buzz from The Melvins on guitar, Trevor Dunn from Mr. Bungle on bass and Dave Lombardo from Slayer on drums. They are very experimental band which shifts genres quite frequently. A lot of time their music is very ambient actually. Its weird. But what would you expect.
Tomahawk features Duane Dennison from Jesus Lizard and U.S.S.A on guitar and John Stanier, ex-helmet/current Battles drummer. Their first two albums were very straight forward rock oriented, as far as Patton is concerned. However, their third album Anonymous was a huge departure. They transcripted 200 year old native american sheet music and added their own flare. Its a pretty unique and incredible CD.
Of course there is Peeping Tom, which is kind of Mike Pattons baby. It took over 6 years to finish recording that album. And now we have Crudo, which as I said, no one knows what it will sound like. Patton also did and EP and short tour singing for The Dillenger Escape Plan as well as produced Bjork's album Medula.
Patton is currently working on an album with another new group Mondo Cane and they do Italian Pop covers from the 50s and 60s. Yes, you read that right. As well as the Crudo album and another Fantomas album.
He is seriously the bussiest guy in the world. I don't know how he does it. There are a ton of other projects he has done, but i just went over the basics. If you want to know more, go to wikipedia.

Plus, he does voice work for video games and movies. Recently he was the voice of the main character in the game The Darkness (based off the comic with the same name). Also, he was the "voice" of the main vamp/zombie in I Am Legend. Guess he did all the screaming roaring and whatnot.

Of the current Patton projects I'd have to say Fantomas is the most exciting live experience. The band is so tight and pulls off some ridiculous shit you must hear to believe.

I guess this is where I put a video

and yeah, a FNM reunion would rock the cock... but I think ragepatton's estimate of when that will happen is probably on the money. Luckily I caught the guys the first time around.

I agree that a Faith No More reunion isn’t so much a question of “if” but “when”. And I’m not asking anyone to get on stage with Jim Martin. Lord, no. You want the Huey Lewis Looking Guy on guitar, we’ll get you the Huey Lewis Looking Guy on guitar. Just say the word, Patton. We want to work with you on this. The world really needs a fancy suit era reunion of Faith No More.

If you're referring to FNM around King For A Day Fool For A Life Time era you really need to look into the band. That album was awful just absolute shit

No. I think you’re confused. Here, let me educate you.

The song in question is called Ashes To Ashes and is from their last CD, Album of The Year. THAT was the awful and full of shit album. Patton referred to it later when asked why the band broke up as “Well, we started to make bad music.” Even though I don’t care for that album as a whole, it does have 2 of my favorite FNM songs, stripsearched and the again mentioned Ashes to Ashes.

Just to reiterate : Ashes to Ashes is Album of The Year era FNM, NOT King For A Day Fool For A Life Time era FNM.

You know, there are websites out there that you can easily research these topics before posting. You might want to look into that before posting again.

As for King For A Day Fool For A Life I though that was an amazing album. As creative and daring as Angel Dust but doesn’t get anywhere near the accolades that Angel Dust received. You have a country western song (Thanks Billy!) the Just a Man track sounds like an Iron Maiden ballad at times, and you have Evidence, one of the great underrated songs of the decade. Seriously, this song could have blown up for them and been bigger than what Under The Bridge was to the Chili Peppers. It’s fine by me that it was ignored by the masses, just means when future filmmakers want to make their Boogie Nights or Trainspotting they can grab that song for their soundtrack.

I know there work but you were saying late FNM which isn't really that great and more so you said it didn't even need Jim Martin which is blasphemy. I'm not gonna argue about Patton with you though cause it's stupid, but don't tell me I don't know my shit. I've been following all his work even the noise since my uncle got me into FNM when I was 8.

Jim Martin was, and still is, a dinosaur.

He’s about as relevant to FNM, or music in 2008 for that matter, as an old copy of Appetite for Destruction.

He’s a dinosaur and FNM was better off without him.

Hell, the music industry as we know it was better off without him.

He makes a killer pumpkin pie though. Can’t knock my man for that.

    Question Re: FAITH NO MORE

If Mike Patton were to play with any of his bands in the US I would go..but if there is a chance he will be reuniting with FNM at Coachella next year...I will be there NO MATTER WHAT. He said in an interview recently that Peeping Tom 2 will be in the works for next year. Lets hope they tour. God I love him.

I don't think you realize how big of an impact Jim Martin leaving the band made. Have you listened to King For A Day, Fool For A Life Time? I love FNM and all, but that is a weak album. I usually don't even bother with the first 3/4 of the album. Album of the year was MUCH better, but still. Angel Dust is my favorite album of all time. And The Real Thing definately is in the top 10.
Jim Martin left the band because he didn't like the direction the band was going, and after hearing KFAD,FFALT, I know why he left. And if you are a fan of the music of FNM, its not that hard to see. Jim Martins guitar was noticably absent. Not to mention, Pattons voice wasn't at his best on that album, but I won't get into that.
Also, listen to the music of the first two FNM albums. I will admit right now I don't own them. Chuck Mosleys vocals do nothing for me. However, the musical aspect is top notch. Mike Patton was the best thing to happen to Faith No More, and conversely, Faith No More was the best thing to happen to Mike Patton.
In the end, if Faith No More reunited without Jim Martin, I would still go see it. However, if Jim Martin was there as well I think I would have a heart attack.
In conclusion, you saying Jim Martin is not relevant to Faith No More, makes less sense then this...

It’s all subjective. I thought KFAD was an excellent, very creative, album. Other people thought Introduce Yourself was FNM best album. To each their own.

Everything that was experimental about Angel Dust was spearheaded by Patton and Jim Martin fought it every step of the way. He’s a traditional rocker that wanted to stay in that tradition rock territory. Again, you can debate the merits of their albums which like all art is entirely subjective, but what there is no denying is that Faith No More moved on after Jim left. They were able to produce 2 more albums, hundreds of shows, and established a solid identity as a band without him. There’s no denying that.

But I see where people are coming from. I think it’s great that people are loyal to their respective heroes. I don’t agree with it in this particular case but I can respect and understand that loyalty. I would feel the same way about a FNM reunion without Puffy. Jim left and FNM still created 2 more albums and survived several years. Puffy left and the band created 0 more album and soon after broke up. There’s no denying that.

Puffy drums for Ozzy now. And was phenomenal when last October when I saw him.

Sure Jim Martin left the band after Angel Dust, but if he was really that unhappy with Angel Dust, he would have left during the recording. He still toured behind the album. It was when FNM started writing/recording thier new album that he left. And as I said, it's no surprise. He probably didn't like where the KFAD sessions were going, so he bailed. And I don't blame him for that. It is just unfortunate.
I think when the FNM reunion happens, Mike Patton will make sure Jim Martin is on board. Patton doesn't half ass anything. He will want to go big or go home. That is... unless his ego gets the best of him and he decides he doesnt need Big Jim. However, as much of a genius Patton is, I think even he will realize that if FNM are going to reunite, they will need Jim Martin.
