I totally felt the earth move last night! I was sat on the sofa with Hobbes (our cat), and I was just about to turn off the Xbox and go to bed, and suddenly the couch started wobbling! At first I thought it was the people downstairs having sex or moving furniture around or something, but then I realised there was no sound, and that the whole foundations of the house felt like they were shaking. Then I thought it might be a big lorry rumbling past, or a train going under the street or something, but it was too late at night, and too quiet. So I actually thought "OMG, is this an earthquake?" and looked at my watch so that I would remember the time and be able to check the news today to see if anything had happened (it was around 12:55am). Hobbes’ ears pricked up and she looked really confused too! It lasted about twenty seconds and then stopped. Weird.

Lately, they've been talking about "The BIG ONE" on a daily basis. And ever since I moved to this desert I've had to convince myself that the lovely oasis I see across the freeway and along the hills is just that...an oasis...Not the "San Andreas Doorway to Hell," that one day is gonna open up and swallow my ass.

I remember, it was either during the Lander's Quake or the Northridge Quake, and at the "time," I was in (clears throat) an undesirable living situation...I had an older black woman as a "roommate," (think Aunt Jemima) and as the two of us were blissfully asleep, the quake hit. I'll never forget feeling those walls shake and looking down from my bunk in the complete darkness, at two of the biggest, most frightened white saucers of eyes as this woman began hollering, "Lord, I promise I won't sell no crack no mo! I swear to you, oh Lord, ain't no dope fo me! Forgive me Lord, please don't let me n' this po' child (me.) die up in here!!!" Needless to say, we were probably in the safest and most secure place to be during a quake...
