Animal Collective – blowing up on the boards, experimental psych rock music that makes Sonic Youth seem inside the box, not sure I totally get, or what substances are appropriate for them. Bad stomach grinding acid perhaps for the 2nd link and 3rd. the first track Fireworks is kicking my butt, diggin’ it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6KPDWNAPBU – Fireworks neat song, lyrics next to vid, more accessible than some, but afraid of the other tracks. “They make me feel that I'm only all I see sometimes” “That sacred night where we watched the fireworks”

Mark Ronson, seemed to have a lot of covers and songs with guest vocalists, had trouble discerning what he might be like at Coachella. May be more known as producer. He produced Amy Winehouse, DJ’s, lots of widely varying opinions on the message boards (not touching this debate with 10’ pole).

Uffie. – multinational, paris based 20 yr old, electro or nu-skool rap. Bubble gum rap ? Her boy friend DJ’s while she raps. I really should put her higher as she is fun and interesting. Hard to take young jet setting sweet voiced accented girl laboring to affect the language and attitude of gangster rap, seriously thou. Your rhymes are fresh and ya got a glock and popped, ya want to fuck, really… Imitating the attitude, language and style of hip hop through a foreign prism and reassembling the pieces, where it has lost any meaning or authenticity but are merely musical building blocks. Still it’s a fun reflection of the original source material. It’s like Hermione of Harry Potter is gonna hit the pipe and car jack someone.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wVMMmv8QPc

Enter Shikari – Tool fans need to go somewhere. I think i'm a bit old for them, surprised there not just at festivals with My Chemical Romance and such. Bigger in UK, posthardcore, trancecoreor (trance and hardcore metal), sceamo perhaps. Definitely a mosh pit, maybe fires
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2gT1...eature=related at Reading Fest, nice, fact they played the festival saving them from the bottom group
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UWAzFOK4YA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4MiC67seUY

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-7Bzv2GFUg
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLxu2WrZ2AY

Turbonegro - Marilyn Manson of Norway. Norway representing on Saturday. Costumes like the Village People, a sailor, and german officer, and an Alice Cooper singer. 3rd link is a bit Ramones sounding. Hope their not racist. Why did a band have to come from so far to suck, don’t we have enough bands that suck that we have to import them ? Very this is Spinal Tap. Chant for Berserker
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFYXP19e5KM

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoqqDIC_Mgw

Bonde Do Role – latin, do the ‘hey oh’ song…, am I getting my head shook, whistle blown and shot of Tequila at a club in Tijuana ? no ? then why is this music on ?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgb6FxuaPQA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv8mZh3MHhA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QHt3WCHUGc

Just impressions of various bands, i'm sure there way off, shallow, poorly thought out and the like. Haven't seen most of the bands live so, take it for what its worth. Anyways, everyone doing their own research and has different taste, but thought i'd post. (Ducks from incoming flames)

edit: moved Kraftwerk from 3rd to 2nd group

This thread fails in so many levels:

    1) Indie rock simply means independent from a major record label. There's no such distinct sound as how the hipsters want you to perceive.

    2) Techno is not a catch all term for all things considered electronic music, but rather a genre of its own (see: Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, etc.). Erol Alkan never spins techno, he only does the electro crap that is half-assed by Ed Banger.

I also bet you would put Gogol Bordello in your suck category.

I commend you for your research... buuuuut. Having Kraftwerk in your third group and Carbon/Silicon in your fourth is unacceptable.

You can thank America for giving EDM the name "electronica" and then later categorizing all of it as simply "techno".

Still, this is a great thread. Props for doing your homework and providing those youtube vids. I will check out some of them eventually (I want to check out cinematic orchestra..).

However, you should make more of an effort to see Kraftwerk. I think you'd be glad you saw them if you did.

aye, sorry Chomsky, they are terms I am using to distinguish, Indie rock you might find on Indie 103.1 or KROQ (when not sucking) or KCRW morning becomes eclectic as opposed to hard rock, electronic, rap, electro, 80's throwback, shoegaze, post-punk, emo, reggae etc... sorry if term isn't helpful or specific. Indie is a useful term to me, sorry if you think I buy into some corporate paradigm for using it.

Techno is helpful enough for me to generally distinguish acts in Sahara from rap, rock, Indie hipster stuff, etc... I'm not familiar enough to use jungle, house, breakbeats, trance, for finer levels of distinction. If you want you can pretend I put EDM instead of techno and then do the superior dance.

Yeah thought about Kraftwerk and Carbon/Silicon, and both out of respect, traditon and musical education was thinking I should see, but don't think I'd enjoy as much as above acts. At the 2005 festival, I saw Bauhaus out of respect rather than Chemical Brothers (have albums by both) for fun and regretted it. Maybe I will bump Kraftwerk up to 2nd.

Gogol is a band i don't get as much as message board folks for the insane gypsy carnival, but i'm sure on Sunday they'll blow you away.

Make sure you see Gogol. They were AMAZING last year at Coachella and I have seen them twice since then. They are always a blast.

I don't agree with many of your comments, but a great read anyway - I realise that this is counter to this Board's tradition. Because I didn't agree 100% I suppose I should call you names and post pictures of kitties in compromising positions but I would rather not.

I believe you remember this wrong - I am a big fan of both and saw both in 05. Chem Bros conflicted with Coldplay.

Thanks for that. Yeah I know some of posts on forums are very,'ZOMG you don't like a band I think are the next Beatles' or 'I agree with alot of things but will find an error and pound ya'. I swear music geeks are much less forgiving and more prone to seeking to maintain their fragile egos by flames than other message boards.

Dang, who did i miss seeing Bauhaus ? It must have been Bauhaus into Cold Play, missing Chemical Bros. Anywho, I don't want to miss an act that might be fun, purely to see an act that is more 'important'. Always tough calls when who to see.

When I read this thread I pictured Chris Farley in Drag reading restaurant reviews to Adam Sandler.
Can't quite agree on your groups, but thier yours, thanks the links were helpful though, it helped get up to speed with the acts I didn't know yet.

nah, with 5 stages, many going at once, it's just a way I was categorizing them in terms of who I would prioritize in when time conflicts arise, and as I probably can't catch the majority of acts on a given day. It's also a handy way to generate flames, by people that won't post their likes/dislikes or way to accurately describe bands (or if they do they better comb the threads to have the 'correct' tastes or be branded musically ignorent for not appreciating Man Man for their bad Tom Waits impression enough or god forbid not using appropriate obscure nomenclature to refer to a subgenre of music).

You put Islands in the 4th group and Akron/Family in the suck group? And didn't put Uffie and Hot Chip in the suck group? I call shenanigans.

But I do have to give you credit for doing the homework and then typing all that out.

But Uffie says 'take your ass on the floor, down to the floor', it's funny. Besides should be nice to girls with glocks right ? I don't think gonna make changes to fix the shenanigans on Sat. Feeling like I was to harsh on Data Rock, Reverand and the Makers & Santogold on Friday though, they'd be fun too. Really only should have put very few bands in the bottom.

I found all the links and reviews helpful, I am torn on Kraftwerk too, I love electronic music, and they are pioneers of that, guess it will all depend who they are up against, but I'd b down for seeing them.
