Default Is there really no Oscars thread this year?

Cause I'm sort of ecstatic that the Swell Season won a fucking OSCAR and I don't want to just hide it in the movie thread.

It woulda been to nice to not have a thread at all....it wasnt very special. Jon Stewart was pretty funny. Swell Season were good.

Paul B this is like the Beastie Boys winning an Oscar and you wanting a thread to celebrate.

Still have not seen either movie. Seriously who has the time? With the revolution that is coming and pending food/fuel crisis you would think people would have better shit to do. LOL

I was pretty satisfied with the winners. The only thing that really bothered me was Ratatouille beating out Persepolis in the Animated Film category. Depressing, but predictable.

On second thought, I was also disappointed that Roger Deakins didn't win for The Assassination of Jesse James.

Well... at least There Will Be Blood upset for cinematography (even though Assassination should have won like roberto said).

It was such a good year for movies I can't really complain. Oh yeah, except Bourne Ultimatum getting editing... Oh and the whole Jonny Greenwood and 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days snubs...

The editing on Bourne Ultimatum was pretty bad ass. One of the better compliments the movie gets is how it starts running and keepes going. The fluidity of that is a big credit to the editor. Congratulations to Christopher Rouse.

I too was disappointed Deakins didn't take it for Assassination. I would've settled for him winning for No Country, but I'm glad Blood took it over Diving Bell. I had hope that There Will be Blood would take home Best Picture and the Coens would get best director & screenplay. it was their year and the film deserved it.

congratulations to the Once team, Tessa.

I haven't seen Persepolis, but dude, Ratatouille is an amazing movie. I have never loved an animated movie more. Hell, I even wanted it to win the Best Original Score category. I would have been "depressed" if Surf's Up winned.

I was disappointed that Cate Blanchett didnít win in either category. I was also upset that Casey Affleck didnít win for his role as Robert Ford.

so we had this on last night but I wasn't really watching it. then this duo comes on to sing a song from a movie and I was like, wait, this is confusing, because this song doesn't suck. (previously there was a song with a whole dance routine including men in construction outfits that was like an unintentional parody of broadway gay). so i actually paid attention to this guy playing a guitar with holes in it and the girl on piano and I was like, hey, this is really honestly very good, what's the deal.

so, yeah, yay for the swell season.

I wasn't interested in watching There Will Be Blood but then they mentioned that it was based on an Upton Sinclair book.

I also want to see La Vie en Rose.
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

One more thing to mention. Is it just me or were those quiet scenes in No Country for Old Men just the best. Older movies from the 70s use to attempt this but you could either hear cars in the background or wind. Those quiet scenes are what took me in.

    Yeah, it's based off Oil.

You really should see it. Daniel Day Lewis deserved this award more than anyone in the last 10 years. His performance was truly amazing.

As much as it pains me to recognize one of these lines, I have to say it was actually expertly used here.

The show itself was rather boring (except when Glen and Marketa won), but some really good movies got awards. I think Michael Clayton should have won for Original Screenplay but that just wasn't going to happen with that wacky Diablo Cody in there.

This is the first time that I can remember that I not only agree with the choice from the nominee pool for best picture but genuinely thought the Best Picture winner was the best picture. I don't think that will happen again.

As great as Deakins is, Elswit 100% deserved it this year. Every frame of that picture looked like a work of art. It was incredibly cinematic. I'm glad he got it.

I was very very happy with the results this year. No Country For Old Men deserved all the awards it got, as did Marion, Javier, Daniel Day-Lewis. I did want the supporting actress to go to Amy Ryan, as she did an amazing job in Gone Baby Gone, but Tilda Swinton is a great actress too. I also agree about Elswit deserving to win.

I'm proud of the academy for being progressive enough to give Best Supporting Actress to Thom Yorke.
