"The first time I heard the new single off the Bravery album, I actually cried, and I do not even remember the name of that damn song. It reminded me of this girl I am in love with." - kroqken
Yeah, thinking about the universe is hard. It's almost too abstract for our minds.
VY Canis Majoris (VY CMa) is a red hypergiant star located in the constellation Canis Major. It is the largest known star and also one of the most luminous stars known. It is located about 1.5 kiloparsecs (or 5,000 light-years) from Earth.
Roberta M. Humphreys (2006) estimates the radius of VY CMa at 1800 to 2100 solar radii. To illustrate, if our Sun was replaced with VY Canis Majoris, its surface would extend to the orbit of Saturn. Assuming the upper size limit of 2100 solar radii, light would take more than 8 hours to travel around the star's circumference.
Similarly, if a human could walk on the surface of Canis Majoris – assuming a speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) for 8 hours a day – the person would have to walk for 650,000 years to circle the star (compared with 2 years 11 months to complete the same task on the Earth, and 310 years 7 months on the Sun).
There are two controversial opinions of the properties of VY CMa. One view (such as Roberta M. Humphreys' study), the star is a very large and very luminous red hypergiant. In another opinion (such as Massey, Levesque, & Plez's study), the star is a normal red supergiant, with a radius around 600 solar radii. In this case, its surface would extend well past the orbit of Mars.
i feel so insignificant
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.
Hahaha so awesome thanks. Kinda hurts my head though too.
"We're on a mission from God"
And people still think that we're the only sentient beings in the entire universe.
This is neat too; ignore the dumb fat singing guy but everything else is interesting.
There's absolutely no evidence to suggest that there is any other sentient life in the universe.
theres no evidence that suggests theres not either.

Yeah, 'cause we're so high tech and and went through every single galaxy in the whole universe to check. And we're so special because God created us and the earth is only 4,000 years old.
now my brain really hurtzzz but sweet image
Sorry, I didn't hear you. Come again?
I have a response to this, but I have to go pick someone up...so I will edit it in when I get back.... right. Yeah, actually the point I was making is that you have absolutely no grounds to act like it's stupid to doubt the existence of other intelligent beings because we have absolutely nothing to go on to lead us to a conclusion in either direction. And as you well know, I'm not Christian (also, it's 6000 years, not 4000). But I recognize that if there's anything to Chaos Theory, the millions of years of events that eventually led to the development of humanity must have contained an immeasurable number of chance occurrences all the way down to the cellular level. The idea that the life on this planet was a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 to 1 chance freak result of millions of chain reactions factored exponentially and that our existenece is a complete fluke of the universe is not actually that unrealistic--no more so than being sure there is other life despite no indication of any whatsoever.
smoke some weed and start thinking about this shit, it gets crazy....
