Hi guys,
I'll be drivin with 2 buddies from the Airport in San Diego to Indio. I've checked on google maps on how to get there and its given me a route.
Is it easier to get a bus or to rent a car??
Anything worth seeing on the route down there??

take the 15 north to the 10 east. Rent a car, and there is nothing to see on the way up to coachella. unless you take the 5 north to the 57 north to the 60 east to the 10 east...this will take you 3 more hours, but is very scenic.
You can always make a pit stop at the casinos that are a couple miles off the 15.
You know, I am not sure. I've done the first one 4 times, and I am doing the second one for the first time this year. The second is definately a lot more backroad-ish. Traffic usually isn't too bad going out to the festival with the exception of where the 60 and 10 meet. That part always slows. Once you get on the 60 though parts of it are scenic. The wind farm is always cool to see.
I don't know. I want to say no. I think it's a good 10-15 miles west of indio, and that other route kinda bypasses it and dumps you right into the palm springs/indio area. But again, I am not certain.
I think renting a car would be the best option. I took that back route in 2004and mileage-wise I think it's less. It just felt like it took longer since it was late at night and I was by myself. It is a more interesting drive though.
Is San Diego airport closer than Ontario? How much time takes from it driving to the venue? Is the traffic better than Ontario? Im not sure where to fly into, the difference in prices is at much 20 dollars but I dont want to get stuck in a heavy traffic.
Ill be arriving on friday morning
Early Friday morning? Well Ontario to Indio on mapquest is about 90 miles and San Diego to Indio is 130 miles. So take your pick, but I say Ontario. And eyah its going to suck gettting their when you are in Indio because by that time theres gonan be cars lined up waiting to park and stuff.
hey me and my gf come in on thursday morn (San diego intl airport) and are freakin cuz we cant find a ride to the festy (camping). If anyone wants some cash we need a ride, will just be me and my gal plus minimal camping gear..in our laps! ...anyhoo thx! email us @ tuflion@yahoo.com plz help!
No no no. From the airport:
8 E
163 N
15 N
215 N
60 E
10 E
Or, if you're feeling sassy,
8 E
163 N
15 N
79 S
CA-371 (left)
CA-74 (right)
CA-74 turns into Pines To Palms way, which turns into Monteray Ave, which hits 10 EThe second route, while more backroadish, is typically faster. My family has a place in Palm Desert near Indio, and I've traveled both routes several times. The second route cuts off at least 15-30 minutes, depending on the traffic on the 10. Plus, it's more scenic.Which route is likely to have the least traffic?
And to the original poster, I would rent a car because a bus might take forever.
or check out this thread I started yesterday:

Take the route through Temecula and into Palm Springs. Its faster and you avoid the nightmare of the freeways. As everyone else said, its much more scenic, plus less stressful.
Just don't miss the turn. I did it last year on the way home to SD.. and ended up in Hemet. Not fun at 3am after a weekend of drinking...
