Default NEW NOISE - NME'S ONES TO WATCH IN 2008?

Not that I live and die by it, but sometimes they (NME) pick some dandys. I've heard a lot from the Courteeners and Glasvegas, I really like both. If you remotely like the Mary Chain, or The Ronnettes, you'd prolly really go for Glasvegas' sound. Brooklyn's MGMT are good too (they currently have the free single of the week on itunes).

I also love The Rascals stuff, even though its somewhat interchangable with their pals The Arctic Monkeys. By the way, they used to called The Little Flames and had some great singles a year or two ago (Put Your Dukes Up John).

What say you lot? Anybody heard any others on here?

    Here's their list.

    Courteeners
    Foals
    Black Kids
    Glasvegas
    Friendly Fires
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
    Lightspeed Champion
    MGMT
    The Rascals
    Yo Majesty
    Ting Tings

    (Glasvegas)

I saw Foals at the Barfly in London when I was visiting my homeland. A writer from NME got me in for free. Here is the end of the set when the crowd invaded the stage.

Lightspeed Champion's new album is pretty good. Lead singer from the Test Icicles doing a little Murray Lightburn (the Dears) impression on vocals, but with a much more subdued tone than TI. There are a couple horrible tracks but the album as a whole is better than anything released by Test Icicles that I've heard (admittedly, not a lot).

MGMT's record is solid, I would say they should play coachella, but they are on tour, and I will most likely catch them in SD with yeasayer.

I saw MGMT on Letterman last night, and listened to the free single today. The song was alright, I would have liked it more if they had used that synth line from the very beginning more than once (at least I think it was synth).

I hung out with Joe Lean (of Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jongs) a few years ago, when he was the drummer for The Pipettes. He's a nice guy, but I have never heard this band. He's also done quite a bit of acting, and was in that TV show "The Tudors".

Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jongs may very well be the best band name ever.

The fact that Black Kids is on that list destroys any credibility that list may hold.
Superfan will be in front of the Fonda masturbating furiously to a photo of him taking a photo of a band. Set is from 8:05 to approximately 8:05:15. Guest list only.

Damn, the Ting Tings make some damned catchy tunes. I'm loving this stuff. And it doesn't hurt that the lead singer chick is hot. It looks like they'll be playing SF in March, but no L.A. show yet =(
