I actually find them much better live than on record. I saw them with Brand New and with Annuals, and both times they were stellar

Well actually...that person said "they aren't actually AN orchestra?"
So, I don't think they were implying that the band was called Orchestra.

I'm pretty sure that this post was referring to the fact that both Manchester Orchestra and Cinematic Orchestra are playing Coachella this year and never band actually has an orchestra.

For the original poster, I saw Manchester Orchestra for the first time about a year ago and their performance of 'Where Have You Been?' moved several in the audience to tears. So yeah, they're pretty amazing live.

dude. thanks for correcting me because really, I hadn't read that their full name was 'manchester orchestra'. I didn't see that anywhere. I was really convinced they were just called 'orchestra'. y'know. I didn't really mean "why do they have the word orchestra in their name?". not at all. no. I'm the dumb fuck here. really.

Oh man am I late to this party.

For some reason I confused them (by name cuz Im a putz) with the string quartet that plays symphonic alt-rock classics every year.

But now I See this and Im fully psyched....

I love that song "where have you been" but haven't found another song that I love by them yet (and I have been listening). I will probably check them out if the schedule works out.

I'm at work so I don't have the song handy but by them I also really like the one that goes
"Don't let them see you cry, when the dam breaks down and the city is flooded with water."

I'm not super excited. That Letterman video makes them look like The Generic Orchestra (actually a band) featuring a Dan Deacon look-alike on keyboards.

The Cinematic Orchestra. Now there's something to look forward to.

With a new album due out in 2014 it is time these guys are given an Outdoor Stage slot to crank up their powerful sound.
