Wow, I'm really excited about this. I have been hoping for a big SF festival for a while now. And since I'll be in the Bay permanently starting this summer, it could not have come at a better time. Especially since I'm not certain I will make every Coachella from now on.
Next performer is Steve Winwood...
from Pollstar:
looks like they are going for the older crowdSat 08/23/08 Steve Winwood TBA
Sat 08/23/08 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers TBA
^^ maybe more family oriented!!!
Ah that makes sense.
So we have Radiohead and Tom Petty as headliners eh? The line up is already looking good. Obviously they aren't "confirmed," its just looking that way.
I wonder how much tickets will be for this event though. I was reading the new proposal, and by adding Friday, they shortened the length of Saturday and Sunday. When you work out, adding Friday only adds a net total of an extra hour of music. That is it. Hopefully they take that into acount when creating ticket prices.
Well, adding Friday means another headliner act, which is good. So if anything else, we'll have that. But I do hope they make the ticket prices reasonable. But at least I won't have to worry about transportation/lodging so no matter what it will be a lot cheaper than Coachella for me.
more women, more wine, more gold, (more festivals) MORE EVERYTHING!!!
Why would Radiohead choose the confines of a Festival's time restraints over playing their own show? Granted they have listed SF as the city to which they are touring, but would they really list Mt. View?

Yeah, they wouldn't list mountain view. I just don't want them to play the shoreline. I would actually rather see them in a festival setting.
Upcoming Shows:
Pitchfork Festival: 7/19 @ Union Park
Mountain Oasis Festival: 10/25-27
Coachella: 4/11-13 @ Empire Polo Fields
thanks.
Very true. I am sure there will be SOME jam bands there, because of Superfly. But probably not many. Perhaps we will be graced one of the goodies... like Michael Franti or a Les Claypool project. I dont't classify Primus as a jam band, but they fit with that crowd, along with many other crowds. Anyways, with Primus playing Rothbury, I think there is a chance they might be here too. Superfly loves Les Claypool.
You are also right about Friday. Im guessing Friday will have between 6-10 acts tops. The other days will probaly have between 15-20.
Also, I think many of you are forgetting about this part...
I think we are going to have an incredibly diverse festival on our hands.Performers at the San Francisco Music & Arts Festival will represent a wide range of genres, including rock, blues, reggae, jazz, world, soul, Latin and electronic music.
I have seen Radiohead at the Warfield, twice at the Shoreline and twice at the Berkeley Greek. Shoreline is by far the least desirable of those venues and the most realistic for this tour.

Diversity is great, but if a festival tries to be too many things it runs the risk of failing at all of them. We shall see.
I haven't been to San Francisco since 1997 and really want to return. It would have to be an amazing lineup to make me attend all three days instead of just the Radiohead day and exploring the other two days.
Rage,
Here is a good example of how Radiohead's list of cities compares to the actual location of the show...
City list - Miami, FL
Actual venue - West Palm Beach, FL
They have done this numerous times in the past during the HTTT and Kid A tours, where they will list a city as a stop but the actual show would be in that region but not the actual city previously listed. More examples...
City list - San Francisco, CA
Actual venue - Mountain View, CA
City list - San Diego, CA
Actual venue - Chula Vista, CA
City list - Los Angeles, CA
Actual venue - Hollywood, CA
im just happy to hear talks finally for SF to get a festival!
