Thread: Ratio of "new" vs "old" and "exclusive" vs "mainstream"

Default Ratio of "new" vs "old" and "exclusive" vs "mainstream"

I'm wondering if someone can crunch the numbers for me:

    I define "new" as:

    - Has not appeared at Coachella in the past 3 years (07 or 06 or 05).

    I define "old" as:

    - Everyone minus the "new" groups.

Also, I'm curious as to how many groups are:

    "mainstream"

    - have played venues larger than a typical night club in the US and were not supporting acts

    "exclusive"

    - everyone minus the "mainstream"

I think these ratios are really what I tell people going to Coachella is about. Hearing something you can't really get at your neighborhood venue (living in SF has its bonuses, but I digress).

I'll see if I can crunch them later, but if anyone else has the time, please feel free to do it.

I think you need a more concrete way of defining "mainstream" and "exclusive," because as you have it right now it's pretty subjective.

these ratios don't really tell you anything about why coachella is good.

    my answer is "2."
At some point in time a man switches from "I'll have what he's having" to "I'll have what I'm having."

Ummm, I think you shouldn't call it "exclusive" or "mainstream". Under your definition, Kraftwerk would be "mainstream" though I would consider them "exclusive".

Do you really have to validate why you go to Coachella?
