anyone else spending a lot more money this year on plane tickets?
Last year BOS to ONT I paid 220
This year BOS to PSP is looking to be 400
to ONT is around 340

i don't remember what i paid. this year, i'm buying one way at a time. it's easier on the budget...
At some point in time a man switches from "I'll have what he's having" to "I'll have what I'm having."
I drove last year so I'm not much help but...
I'm paying 250ish roundtrip from SEA to ONT.
I haven't bought a plane ticket yet. I have an offer on the horizon that would involve me moving to New York, so I need to deal with that first. But flights from HNL seem to be around $300 currently.
I'll fly from Mexico City to Tijuana once again, last year I paid about $250, this year I got it for $199
check out southwest and see if they have service to your city (they do for almost all big cities), southwest is probably the best priced and with the most available flight times. OAK to LAX is as low as $49 (cheaper than a tank of gas) but make sure you buy them early
Recent studies at Yale have shown that being an asshole is detrimental to one's health. Professor Sweetlove, a Psychology professor, came on record as saying:
"Assholes and local desert rats tend to live shorter lives and have less consensual sexual relations than non assholes. It could be due to lower testoserone levels or a chemical imbalance in the brain but some people are just wired to be.... well.... assholes"
Full story can be found here. AP
from Washington, DC (IAD) to Palm Springs, Cali (PSP) it costs me about 400 round trip.
Bought my plane ticket a week before the lineup was announced. $208 round trip from Houston to PSP. Can't beat that!
So, my plane ticket price increased like $70 this last night. Now I'll have to flight into SNA instead of ONT, to save that money.
Book your flights soon, if you haven't done it yet.
last year i think i paid 300 or around there, and this year i paid 420 or so...
Upcoming Shows:
Pitchfork Festival: 7/19 @ Union Park
Mountain Oasis Festival: 10/25-27
I just noticed that the price of renting a car has gone down. I looked a few weeks ago and I balked at the cost but I looked again today and even Hertz was cheap. I got a full size from Thurs - Mon for $115.
Yeah, I just realized that too. I had a car reservation for ONT for $120 fri-mon, and now for SNA it's like $50.
By the way, how far is SNA from Indio? Google says it's a 30 minutes longer drive than from ONT, but can any local confirm that? Could I make it to the campgrounds in 2 hours leaving SNA on friday around 3pm?
Calgary to Palm Springs
Last year - $398
This year - $396
I always rent my car from www.carrentals.com. I don't know why, but I always get a smoking deal on that thing. When I went to Arcade Fire in Mountain View, I got my rental car for like 13 a day.
Paid £305 GBP last year MAN - LAS and this year paying £330 LHR - LAX, 2007 was £290 MAN - LAX, so yes they have gone up a little, 2009 has been the first year it has been cheaper to fly with a British airline (BA in this case) than in the past the US airlines have always cost less, but that's due to the weakened Pound against the Dollar i guess

Jumping on the car hire comments, does anyone have a ballpark figure how much extra you get stung for on one way rentals? (Just remembered in above post I put LHR - LAX this year when it is in fact LHR - SFO a week and half before Coach then leaving out of LAX)
Paying exactly the same as last year for flights, but will be raped by the piss poor exchange rate once i touch down. My ticket will be 35% dearer than last year, and so will everything else i buy.
Yup, I'm trying not to think about!!!
I'm actually paying less this year than what I paid last year, and i'm flying out of a more convenient location
Last year was DC to PSP, roundtrip at about 440
This year it's Richmond to PSP, roundtrip at about 360
.
then again, I booked this flight significantly earlier than last year, by about 2 months.
from DC last year $340, this year I'm looking right at 200... but we're all going to get raped on bag fees. Most airlines are 15 each way for 1st bag and 25 for 2nd. Too bad there's no way I can do my shade canopy as carry on... that's all I really need.
I would suggest to bid your rental car on Priceline. I just rented a compact car for $10 a day plus tax. It accepted my first bid, so I'm left to believe one could potentially get it cheaper.
I'm stoked. I just saved a ton of money on my ticket.
Last year I flew from McAllen, Texas (it's on the border at the tip) to LAX. It cost like $275.
This year, I am driving to Austin, Texas, to leave my car with a friend. Flying from Austin round trip to LAX is only costing me $190. I'm stoked, and I just got my tix a second ago.
Last year: $40 (Mileage ticket)
This year: $682.90
Departing Fairbanks, AK at 1:30 AM on April 15.
Arriving Palm Springs, CA at 9:49 AM on April 15.
Far and away the shortest-ever flight I've had to Palm Springs. It usually takes 12-15 hours.
DC 2 LAX (2008): $204 roundtrip bought the week of...
DC 2 LAX (2009): $240 roundtrip bought a month ago... yapta's showing that the same flight is now going for $438
last year: 320
this year: 234
flying out of raleigh... i dunno why it's so much cheaper but i heart
i can go with the flow.
I fly BOS-LAX, and I'm paying almost $100 less this year than I did last year. Prices change drastically from day to day... check farecast.com before you book to get an idea if it's the right time to jump on it or not.
I'm a little ticked because I missed the super-low introductory fares on the Virgin America BOS-LAX nonstops. Virgin America is damned fantastic.
