I wish I hadn't deleted the episode immediately after we watched it, but I was pretty sure the rest of the inscription said "G.B." at the end of it, meaning that it wasn't just the "W.W." that tipped Hank off but the fact that Gale Boeticher had used that abbreviation and now here it was again from one "G.B."

It was the G.B. thing and also that he wrote "my other favorite W.W."

well then i'm obviously missing something, because i have no idea what "GB" and "walt whitman" have to do with making meth.

OH, gale was the other chemist. i thought it was from his college friend. that makes a lot more sense then.

i think the book in the bathroom was from his college friend. initials also GB. the connection is that gale referenced a walt whitman poem when he wrote to WW in the notebook hank found during the murder investigation.

Oh shit really? His college friend was also G.B. and a fan of Walt Whitman...?

I just assumed that the book was from Gale the chemist and he wrote that note in it for Walt.

With the other favorite W.W. and the flashback to before, I don't see how you can assume anything else.

actually, just to clarify, her name is Gretchen Schwartz. Schwartz is a variation of 'Black' in german (hence GB). It's the lady that he started Grey Matter with. (White x Black = Grey).

This sounds like you're overreaching like hell. Not to mention her name is Gretchen, but regardless, the book is from Gale.

Holy shit, so Walter's past friend/co-worker, Gwen Schwartz, was a fan of Walt Whitman, and give that book to Walter White with that written note?

EDIT: Ok Frazzles that said contrary...I mean, at this point, it really doesn't matter, but now I am just curious for the sake of knowing, was it Gwen or Gale that gave Walter that book?

it's a theory that removes walt's stupidity in leaving the book on his toilet.

in the end, it doesn't matter where the book came from. the result is the same either way.

    Give it up.

They may as well have had Hank watching Gale's Major Tom karaoke video on Youtube and seeing Walt's "LOL, BRO!" comment under it.

possibly. i tend to get stoned as fuck before i watch each episode. If so, it hasn't been brought up in any other discussion i've had on the subject.

calm down dude. it's just television.

I thought that this happened, too, but I couldn't remember the episode (or if I just "remembered" something that didn't happen).

If they write it as being a gift from Gretchen, then I would be a little disappointed.

I remember Hank poring over Gale's notebook and agonizing over those initials, so it makes sense to me that the idea would come to him while he was taking a dump.

edit: and obv. after reading the entry in the poetry book.

If you can't read a message board post without inferring rage anytime someone types a cuss word then you need to cut down on your coffee and cigarettes.

btw, all this "gretchen brown/grey matter" bullshit seems to stem from one blog and has been washed through dozens more through a cursory search. It's hilarious how quickly it gets thrashed on them all.

I may have misremembered too. A quick search turns up others who remember Gale and Walt discussing Whitman at least in season 3.

I'm disappointed either way. Either Walt's stupid for dropping the book in his bathroom or it's an incredible reach with this whole "Schwarz/Black" crap. either way it's bad writing.

And I think Amy's right. I think Hank did see W.W. somewhere else in Gale's notebooks.

thanks for the advice. you roid out in every thread you touch. sorry for inferring your natural state in that post.

your google skills obviously outclass my don't really give a fuck skills on this. i was just presenting an alternate theory since people people were tepid at best on the gale theory.

Not sure why you guys have to think Hank was wondering about the initials. They flashed to it immediately after they showed the inscription in the book.

The W.W. initials WERE in the notebook from Gale (hence the flashback from the last episode. Honestly, how do you guys not remember that? Even in the flash back Hank says "Who do you think W.W. is?")

I guess everyone is just trying to remember whether or not Gale ALSO gave Walt the BOOK that Hank found. Like I said, it doesn't really mater at this point, but I am curious as hell about what the writers intended.

And jackstraw, you do roid out in every thread, so don't act all surprised and superior when someone reacts.
