    Default Coupla things:

Will one of you please invent an apparatus that removes all the delicious juicy juice pods out of a grapefruit with no residual bitter skin? Preferably something that can fit in a drawer and performs it's function in a simple manner. Like with a lever or something. I hate peeling.

Also, does yellow grapefruit have a different taste than pink grapefruit or do I just think it tastes better because it's pink?

    (obvs, This is important.)

grapefruit knife. double blade on one side, curved blade on the other.
or a grapefruit spoon spoon with a sharpish serrated edge.
    the best is both.
and pink has a higher sugar content- it's sweeter.

You are most certainly not crazy. Pink equals sweet. Everyone knows if sweet was a color it would be pink. And it would be sticky. And sour would be yellow.

Lookit. Wikipedia confirms your hunch. And everyone knows wikipedia is very smart and never lies:

But see Frozen Pilgrim I don't like using grapefruit spoons, I feel like you end up smashing too many pods and then you're just drinking juice with a sharp spoon. I want the whole wedges, intact, with no bitter peel. Is the goal. I want to eat it with my hands.

the vitamin c (and psychedelic or opiate potentiating) content is bitter- it's most concentrated in the white membranes of the yellow variety, although it's just about exactly the same in the membrane of pink grapefruit.

I rarely take opiates, Cracker from Crenshaw, but I will keep that in mind if I am grocery shopping for fruit before my next opiate high.

Wait so is that why people say you should eat oranges when you're tripping on acid?

People try to give you orange juice on ecstacy. I had no idea there was any real reason. I just thought I knew a bunch of tripped up junkies who were way into orange juice.

    yeah.
there's a link between the amount of vitamin c you ingest and your body's ability to produce serotonin (antagonized by lsd, mdma, mushrooms) and dopamine (antagonized by thc, some disassociatives, some opioids, and again, mushrooms).
more than anything, vitamin C stops you from 'sketching out' from a lack of serotonin/dopamine reserves

actually, grapefruit and wine grapes share a similar bitter quality.
remember that we eat fresh only a very few of the fundreds (or possibly thousands) of varieties of grapes.

Maybe you could cut the damn thing into halves, then 1/4's, then 1/8th's, keeping the peel on, and eat the little wedges like appetizers with the peel to keep your fingers tidy. Or, you could do what all the refined older guests do at the club I work at and ask for grapefruit peeled for them, and let someone in the kitchen deal with the hassle.
Its like the Infinite Monkey Theorem, if you put X amount of monkeys in a room with a typewriter and ask them to give you Shakespeare 99% of them will fling their shit at you while the other 1% will masturbate in the corner.

if you're gonna fix that, why not go after the fact that technically, apples, tomatoes, grapes, and grapefruit are all technically BERRIES, not fruit.

I think people defined things about fruit before they were really aware what fruit was all about.

There needs to be an emergency reorganization of the fruit panel.

    from old faithful wikipedia

The grapefruit was known as the shaddock or shattuck until the 1800s. Its current name alludes to clusters of the fruit on the tree, which often appear similar to grapes

The grapefruit is a sub-tropical citrus tree grown for its fruit which was originally named the "forbidden fruit" of Barbados.[1]

I'm warning you in advance...I never see it in the Bay Area. I have seen it in Sacramento though. When I see it in the Bay Area, it is like a special holiday. Kind of like when some place carries Good Humor Chocolate Eclair bars or Trolli Gummi Eggs.
