Thread: The IDM & Downtempo Lounge

I've loved Casino vs Japan since 'Go Hawaii' came out, and worked my way backwards... And then Whole Numbers Play the Basics and Silver & Gold came out and blew me away so completely. I wish he'd hurry up and release another 150 tunes and do a show/tour with the rocking chairs/headphones like he's talked about.
In somewhat the same vein, does anyone here like Flowchart?

Hey there. I am hanging in there. It has been a pretty busy month, and it will only get more so. How have you been?

Despite my busyness, I have found time to discover a few new artists. Particularly, Bola and Christ. are rocking my world right now. I might need to upload a Bola album for the group soon, too.
besides work keeping me busy all is well... looking forward for some downtime to go record shopping. Tons of shit I need to p/u. What's Bola and Christ about?

To me, nothing can top the overall awesomeness that is Hitori + Kaiso. So much great stuff on that album.

I have only heard an album by Flowchart, and it was pretty good. I know someone here was really talking them up, but I can't remember who.

PS: People on the list, PM's have been sent.

Bola is an artist on Skam. Absolutely amazing. I have been listening to him nonstop. Kind of in the vein of BOC, but he has a unique touch. I will have to upload an album and have you check it. Seriously, it is fucking money. Christ. is another great downtempo artist. I am pretty sure they both will get your stamp of approval.

must have been someone using another nick *wink*

What I know about Flowchart is they started out a little different.. they began more as psychedelic indie pop but then went a little more cloudy electronic & sometimes house.
Try the 'Cumulous Mood Twang' album and these tracks:
    Oshkosh Wonderboy
    Flutter By Butterfly
    Manderine
    Gee Bee
    Warm & Quirky

    enjoy!

I like Trans a pretty good deal, but Radioactivity bores me a bit. The title track is so bland when compared to the awesomeness that is the live version.

Okay guys, I've been out of the Downtempo loop for a little while now. I got some new stuff from Luckyface, but what's this about Casino vs. Japan? Also, what else is good out there that's new?
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

You know what's weird? Aside from maybe... 7 songs at best, I've never thought of RDJ as a "songs" guy, more like a mood guy. If I feel like RDJ I (again) have like a handful of songs to go to, but generally I just click on random and let the algorithm choose, and I'm usually not disappointed.

bola is one of those artists who gets better with each release. i think soup and kroungrine are my favorite ones. shapes is awesome too, although kind of underrated. all his works are pretty much great.

Have you not heard any CvJ? I sent it out to a couple of people, and I thought you were one. If not, I will have to change that when I get a little bit of time.

I definitely agree with your assessment, with Soup being my favorite album. I need to listen to Shapes and then I will be all caught up.

'Radio-Activity' is pretty much my favorite Kraftwerk song, and that's against some pretty stiff competition. But I really can't make it through the rest of the album, although 'Antenna' is a great piece of electro-pop.

When I first got 'Trans Europa Express' it was the German version, and I still can't adjust to the English version of those songs. I kept thinking 'schaufensterpuppen' throughout 'Showroom Dummies' at Coachella. The German versions of those songs sound so much harsher and creepier.

i've been listening to cex the last couple of days. most of you might know him since he's opened for the postal service, mogwai, and the roots in the past. if you can get a listen of his works, try oops i did it again, and sketchi. his last album dannibal is good too. i'll try to upload some of those within the next few days for the people who can't find them.

and in idm related news, mike patton just picked squarepusher to play the nightmare before christmas on december. i wish there were a couple of idm artists at atp ny.
