Thread: The IDM & Downtempo Lounge

Speaking of Automator collaborations I just got Peeping Tom's first cd "Liquidsand." I'm actually not sure if automator was involved with that one... Either way I like it and am downloading the follow up self titled release from Emusic right now. It seems to follow the same pattern as handsome boy modeling school, where the first cd is basically a producer's album and the second one brings in a lot of collaborating artists.

Yeah, the Peeping Tom self-titled disc is pretty alright. I don't see why Patton and Daddy G were so irritated with how the Massive Attack collab track turned out... I kinda like it.

Also it contains the only Norah Jones song I've been able to withstand, thus far.

    I still hate you though.

    It's entirely personal.

but facetiously, Ochre's Midsummer Nice Dream is a fucking classic. Definitely in my top 10 melodic IDM albums. It's a shame Lemodie couldn't live up to it, but there's realistically no chance it could have. if you haven't already, check out Ochre's zelda remix on his myspace.

Secede's track, Leraine, off of Tryshasla is always included in my ambient downtempo mixes.

These two acts are up there with Ulrich Schnauss as far as amazing artists who seem to magically compose songs that I feel like I've been waiting for to materialize forever.

Ochre's more uptempo stuff is paralleled by Kelpe. Check him out if you haven't already, but I'm guessing you have. Kelpe's newest album isn't very good though.

If you don't have Bil Bless' SQUARNCH get it (I can lend it to you if you wish but he's genius and you should buy it eventually). Far more glitchy compared to these guys but he's one of the greatest IDM composers today. His music is every bit as complex as geniuses like Plaid and BOA. He's probably my biggest DJ man crush.

what are your thoughts on Kettel?

I like most of Kettel. My Dogan is excellent. Sending Orbs puts out some really interesting stuff. I really like Legiac project from Funken Brothers. I'm not familiar with Bil Bless but what you describe sounds interesting so I will put that on my list. Are you familiar with Fennesz? If not check his work out. Its more experimental/ambient very nice.

    PS. I hate you too

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but Tycho has a new single available on Itunes.

It consists of 2 songs, Adrift and From Home.

Tycho has also been asked by the Obama Campaign to create an Obama poster, I don't support Obama, but it still looks good.

    It's $75, ouch.

He sure is, he creates all of his visuals that are shown during his live shows and does all of his own posters and t-shirts. His shirts are the only band shirts that I will wear out in public and I have 2 of his posters, one of which came mounted on wood.

Here is the link to his ISO50 (Tycho's visual artist name) shop:

Here is an example of his live visuals:

Here are a couple production videos:

    Dictaphone's Lament

Here is a video from a small Tycho show that I was at:

seriously. it's pretty awesome. thanks a lot.

Leila came to mind while listening those tracks. and I remembered she owes us an album which was going to be released last year, but for some reason didn't happen. then, she said it'll be this year. I can't wait for that one.

the mettle lp is really nice. you can listen samples on bleep, juno and beatport.

Yeah, Night is awesome and has some really great stuff on it ("Sometimes 2 Equals 1" in particular). He came out of a 4-5 year hiatus to release that one last year. He also will be releasing two more albums in the near future.

If someone happens to find a good torrent of their album, or is able to upload it, lemme know. I think I'm gonna play the Walk on The Wild Side remix on my show tomorrow.

so I just pre-ordered the 4 track 12" Deflect. it includes Deflect (a track that will come in the new album) and it has 3 more songs that won't be included on it. And apparently the new album "Blood, Looms And Blooms" leaked. If this leaked version is the real deal, then it's pretty awesome.
