i really like wisp's the shimmering hour. well worth the 1.5 years wait for this release on rephlex. that guy has just been getting better and better since he signed to sublight.

i saw him opening for venetian snares almost a month ago. great set, he owned the place. he didn't play many tracks of this album though. v snares is always fun live but can get tiring sometimes. no new material and too much gabber (i don't think he played anything below 170-180bpm that night.) he should play some last step so his sets would have more variety and would be much more interesting.

^ Word. Yea, I saw both of them @ the Key Club.... I knew what to expect for VS, but Wisp totally jacked the thunder.

I have this vid up right now..., might have a few more somewhere...

I've really dove into Scott Herrons work this past month. I can't believe I've missed out on this for so long. He is coming in February too, which worked out perfectly.

    Good news from Trifonic:

Happy 2010! We are looking forward to an exciting, productive new decade over here in Trifonic land, and we hope you are too.

A few months ago we mentioned we'd be launching a production blog where we talk about how we make our music, and I'm happy to say that it's finally here: NextStepAudio.com

The idea behind Next Step Audio is to show you specifically how Trifonic works in the studio, and demonstrate some advanced techniques for producing electronic music. Over time we plan to offer various downloads and more in-depth tutorials for the folks that are interested.

We'll be posting new videos every week, so please go check out the site and, if you like what you see, subscribe to the Next Step Audio RSS feed. Hope you find the production tutorials useful, and please let us know what you think!

And for those of you who would rather just have Trifonic make the music, we're hard at work on the next release, which we hope to have ready in the first half of this year... we'll certainly keep you posted.

    Best,
    LT and Brian
Here's a link to a video of Trifonic performing at the Red Devil Lounge in SF, which I missed cuz I was at sea

I have to choose between seeing Prefuse 73 (with live band) or DJ Krush. I've never seen either and I like DJ Krush's recorded material better than I do Prefuse's, but I don't want to discount either out of hand. Which show do you guys suggest I go to?

The re-release of his self titled is amazing not only because it is a fantastic album, but it also means I may have chance to see him live. I would be almost as happy to see CVJ on the poster as I would to see Boards of Canada.

    Let's make this happen GV.

I'd definitely go with Prefuse, but that's just me. Follow your heart.

OK - I acknowledge up front that this question contains a ridiculously insufficient number of details to generate the correct answer, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

I remember a video that I saw on the old MTV program AMP around 2001/2002 and it featured a dog kind of wandering/walking through a city scene. The song was an instrumental (duh), midtempo, and generally "pretty" as opposed to "aggressive" or "dancey". It sounded like it had live drums and, frankly, it sounded like the main melodic instrument was some sort of live electronics (as opposed to programmed).

    Any thoughts?

prefuse with a live band was a horrible disappointment. P73's production often has a very ridig timing to it and seeing the live band members trying to keep up seemed forced and unnatural.

DJ Krush is fucking awesome and his music lends itself much better to live accompaniment (because it's often recorded that way). He sometimes tours with legendary japanese live artists.

Thanks for the input Natelevmofuggaz and jackstraw. I think that DJ Krush is going to be the best fit for my wife and I.

Yeah I have never seen either of those acts live, so jackstraw's input is probably a bit more valid than mine. Either way, I hope you enjoy the show.

I finally got around to listening to this album and it's fucking awesome.

    It's VERY Plaid(ish) with a Schnauss(y) talent for melody.

That is an awesome track. And ironically possibly the only one that could plausibly contain no synthesized music at all.

Man, I need to catch up on the recommendations in this thread.

If people like borderline jazz, I just found out Jaga Jazzist is releasing a new album on February 23. The single sounds pretty promising.
